89watt Cfl vs 400watt HPS?

Hey guys, At the moment im using 89watt cfl about 5000lumen in this area :

What you think about 400watt HPS? Got exhoust and Intake fan. Tempture at the moment is about 25 Celcius. With ONLY the intake fan on.. ( Exhoust fan is spinning though)

Will the Yield be bigger?
Is it ok to switch in the middle of everything?

( I probably can get a random amount of watts from the HPS, 250 maybe is better???)

Best Regards Norrsken

Within reason, more light is almost always better and produces more.

Standard lighting is considered 50 watts per square foot. Many consider 100 wsf the point of diminishing returns. Measuring in inches: LxW÷144x50=wattage.

Without specs, I'll GUESS a 400 would be a cooling nightmare.

Switching in the middle will do no harm.

going from 89 watts of CFls to a 400 watt HPS is a HUGE leap up in power. I would go for a 150 watt HPS instead. A dialed in grow with a 150 watt HPS could yield 100 grams no problem. A dialed in 89 watt CFL grow would be lucky to get 28. You'll have trouble enough cooling the 150, but depending on the size of your growing space, the 400 would be very difficult to cool.

your growroom looks more than enough for 400w maybe you have to turn that exhaust fan on and put glass right under the bulb..piece of cake but in another hand a fixable 150w and 250w would do you just have to raise the lamp as the plants grow

hard to tell w/o measurements on the grow cabe, but based on the size of the pots in relation to the cab, i would think that you have 1'x2'x3' cab or something close to that. i think a 400w would be way too much for your pc fans to keep cool. a 250w might be a better choice. Do you veg and flower in this cab? you might want to look at a CMH vs a HPS for lighting, they are a lil bit cooler then a HPS of equal size and have a better spectrum as well. think freezerboy would know more about this than i but setup might be perfect for that type of bulb

you want at least 3x2 foot for a 400, 2x2 for a 250. and a good extractor

You say your intake fan is running? why need an intake fan. if the room is properly set up you only need an exhaust fan, it will create the need negative pressure to pull fresh air into the room as needed. No harm, just dont need it.
I have just a single 400 running in my 6X6X7 room and it heats it up plenty. My 435cfm fan keeps it just right though, running at about 1/2 speed. When my 2nd light comes I'll have to run the fan more. Those suckers are HOT, and I have the ballasts OUTside the grow room.

Intake fans are the fastest way to achieve positive pressure. Positive pressure=smell, smell=jail. You want negative pressure which is most easily achieved with passive intakes and a powered exhaust.

If you want to play with intake fans you need to REALLY know your stuff.
