800w cab design

hello all. i've been doing alot of reading and planning, but i could use some advice. i plan on building a flowering chamber 48inhX72inwX28ind, for a stealth sog grow. going with 2 400w digi hps balasts with air cooled hoods from hid hut, 6" 270cfm inline through 6" 200cfm scrubber, 6" 270 cfm inline fan for lights, 2x8" darkroom louvers(passive intake). I'm not sure about the fans, i need quiet. is 270 overkill for lights? here's a design a drew with google sketchup.the fans will go on top, and that will all be enclosed, with exhaust venting out the back. for moms and clones i'm thinking t12s with 8 t6 bulbs. maybe a 28"dx36"wx36"h room with a 400w mh for veg. i just ordered d39 seeds from rez, clones will be vegged for about 1week then into 1gallon bags for flower. i plan on fitting about 30-40 plants in the flower box at a time, and pulling out 2lbs at harvest. :chin: as far as nutes go, i want to go organic, but not sure which yet. check out my box and let me know what you think. peace people

may i make a suggestion? im doing something similar i will have a 600 watt hps over a 6 square foot aare (100 wpsf) with CO2 and air condtioning to keep the temps down. i am hoping for a lb on my first harvest and possibly two if i have the right strain and everyhthing dialed in. i too will be going all organic. 2 lbs from that setup will be tuff but can be done. now for the suggestion...

at first glance i thought that your box was divided into two spaces. maybe you should divide them into two psaces and run them off one ballast!. you can use a spliter so that for the first 12 hours of the day one room is in light and the other is in dark and for the second half of the day it is reversed. that would save you some money. and if you still have extra buy a backup magnetic ballast. will save u some bucks and would bee cooler to run. just makesure when u setup the exhaust it runs throught both lights and that the light doesnt leak from one grow are to the other.

p.s. never heard of google sketch up but once i saw your pics i downloaded it right away. :)

thanks pontiac i already have ticks sog journal saved to my favorites, i've been studying it religiously.

i hadn't thought about putting a splitter on one ballast. that sounds like a great idea, though. i will look into it. can i use the same fan to exhaust both sides?

what size veg box would be big enough to fill a flower box 28inx36in? do i need a carbon scrubber for veg?

jo, my original plan was to go with 2 600w. maybe i will use one with a splitter. that would increase my harvest a bit.

sketchup is a fun program, i saw someone else use it to design a box on here.

if your gunna run that much light i would seriously consider running CO2 also as much of that light the plant would not be able to process. remmeber that the plant uses energy from the lights CO2 and water to make sugars. so if you have too much light and not enough CO2 your light will be wasted.

well, it looks like i would end up spendeing just as mush or more on a flip-flop, extra fan, extra scrubber, c02. a flip flop would be more beneficial on a larger grow, no? unless i could just put a damper on a timer between the rooms and the fan... :chin:

as far as co2, might be more trouble than i want to deal with just yet.

u could use the same fan and scrumber for the other area. i only reccomend CO2 because youve got so much light in that area. i think it will largely be a waste, well maybe not a waste but you would get sooooooooo much more if you hade CO2 in your setup.

lol your post actually inspired me to run a flip flop system. but i think ill make a cab that can easily have another cab added. once i get it figured out ill use sketchup and post some pics. but first the one box and make it expandable :). i love my hobby!

I am also doing this. (2) 400w hps in a cabinet. Mine is 20"deep X 42" wide X 65" high. i'm just not sure if i can keep it cool. Can' wait to see how yours comes out. If i get a chance i'll snap a picture of mine and post it up. Good luck with your cabinets guys. :woohoo:

i would love to see all of your cabs ideas sre always welcome. i have yet to have a succesful harvest. this will be my first time spending more than 50 bucks on equip. i'm going to do it right this time, though. here is a crappy pic

hide- are you adding six inches in depth? how?

HighonthePrize - I'm adding 6" to a C24 by using wood glue to attach ripped material to the back edges of the cabinet. I bought an extra shelf that was the same length and type and height as the C24. That shelf was 12" wide so I cut it in half and used glue and clamps to add 6". Then I cut the center vertical shelf support that came with the C24 to make extensions for the top and bottom. I'll have some pictures soon.
I'm considering using dual 400W air cooled hoods that can be put at different heights so I can have smaller harvests once a month rather than large one once ever 2 months. Let me work on it some more and I'll post some pictures in the near future.

Good luck on your cabinet.

I scrapped this idea. I've decided to run 2 hydrohuts instead. The first run will be completely fluoro. I ordered a 6 lamp T5 for veg and an 8 lamp T5 for flower. These are both 4' long and 2' wide, which will fit perfectly in the new hydrohut 2'x4' i just ordered. Later, I will either switch to 2x400w hps in the flower tent and make a second level in the veg tent, or buy 2 more t5s and make both tents bi-level.

nice cabs everyone.

wish i could do duel 400 but my summer temps are way to high(105 to 110) with about 60% to 70% sometimes 90% and i grow in the garage. very nice setups everyone, keep those ideas coming.

P.S. google keeps a data base of everything you do on there sight( searches, downloads, etc. and reserves the right to sell that info at a later date so be careful.

stay safe,,,,,,,,,,dwtc
