8" Fan with 6" carbon filter?

60x60x80 Tent with about a 860 CMH in Florida. Tent is in a lung room with a 12K window AC and a 70 pint Danby dehumidifier. Probably will add an additional light.....someday.

The fan I'm looking at is a Can Fan Pro series 863 CFM 8". More fan than I currently need but might be nice for future expansion and to be able to run it slower and quieter. Thought I could set it to "Low" (max 550 CFM) and use a controller to vary the speed down from there. Here is the fan:

I could use a 8" Phresh filter.....but I'm not sure running 300-500 CFM through a 750 CF filter will be effective. Thought the 6" Phresh 550 CFM can might work better?

Do I need the 8" Phresh? I can't imagine a scenario where I would need to evacuate the air from the tent as many times per min as an 8" is capable of.....but of course I'm probably overlooking something......

Any opinions/advice?

Thanks....

I'd run an 8 through a 8 to 6 reducer on a 6 filter. If you can get an 8 filter with close to the proper cfm rating then you can do that...but that won't be as versatile, and I'm guessing thats what you're going for.

Thank you Mudraya! You don't think running an 8" fan at that slow of a CFM will be a problem?

Anyone know whether pushing/pulling 400 CFM (or so) through an 8" 750 CFM filter will be a problem? I'm concerned that a 8" filter might need a minimum CFM to work effectively.

Your filter will work better and last longer if you run it like that. I always go big on the filter.

Thank you Scrappy! Based on your experience I'm going to try the 8" Phresh filter. Not too tough of a decision......considering that's what I really wanted to do anyway.:tiphat:

Thanks Granger2! Yep.....that's the current plan. 8" fan and 8" filter. Set the fan on the low setting and control it with the variac. Thanks for weighing in on this. If there isn't enough air flow to eliminate odor, or I have a problem with the fan running low and slow.....I'll be sure to report back.
