So what light should i get? I have a 400watt CMH setup now, but we want another light system, for another room. What should i get? HPS? CMH? What Wattage?

600w hps with lumatek digital ballasts are your best bet. Online you could probably get two with bulbs and reflectors for 700...but I only pay cash at very overpriced hydro shops. Safety over price...

HPS for flowering.

I went from a 400 to a 600w and saw a massive improvement in bud size and density. Obviously 1000k is going to give even more, but I found the heat too intense to work under comfortably so I went for two 600ws instead.

Get the Lumatek Dual 600w Digital HPS for ~$375. You have enough left over to get two parabolic reflectors or a couple air cooled hoods or two of those croak bat wings, I can't remember the brand.

I'd buy a good 1000w HPS ballast a good hood and some extra bulbs with the cash left over. MH is over rated IMHO. More heat and less lumen's.

for flower, as a main light, HPS is the way to go. period.


the more heat you can handle, the more power/light you can/should use - MO WATTS PER SQFT = MO BETTA.

something elseto consider is what kind of grow are you doing?

are you flowering cuts that you don't expect to get above 18-20" tall - if thats the case, 600 will do the job (1k better tho! but 2 x 600s trumps the 1k.... watts per sqft remember)

if you are growing plants over 24" tall, go for the 1000 - you will have more lumens penetrating deeper into the plants producing 'mo betta' buds underneath the main canopy

i have my lights 45" over the tops of my pots (at the soil level).... the plants finish up 12-15" away from the bulb/reflector.

with the CMH i can have the plants 4 inches from the light bulb(400 watt CMH) and they wouldnt burn, and thats with no fan or a/c, just an exhaust fan in the cieling. So CMH is very heat friendly. I was thinking of doing 2 400watt CMH and 2 600watt HPS.
