7 ft ceiling MH Lighting solution needed

Hi there, new grower and new room set up. I have a 5x5 open area in a 7 foot tall ceiling room What would you think would be the best solution for that height ? I don't want to do LED's I want to do MH and was wondering if 400 or 600 w lights would be best or 600 too much for that ceiling and size flower area (open area in a room flower closet 2x10 ft in same room. I would also wonder how many plants would work in a 5x5 area? I would guess 3 maximum multi colas on a scrog? Help needed ! Thank you ICMAG!

600 is perfect for a 5x5x7 room if you don't mind moving a plant or two to get in there and work, 400 would be easier to cool and leave an isle on one side to work from.

My sativa room is 5x5x7, with 600mh for lighting. The exhaust fan turns on when temp or humidity gets to high, pulling air from and venting into veg room/lounge area that is air conditioned to 75f and 40-50% humidity.
This room is perpetual and ranges from 9 to 20 plants. Pot size ranges from 3/4 to 25 gallons.
Most pots sit on a shelf or bucket to optimize available light but every once and a while it is nice to have the full 7 foot for a large plant that sits directly on floor.

Thank you I wood that is a very nice room and the information is great I have been stressed out trying to go thru all the info. This looks idea for the best quality not quantity. 10 dollars a gram for no smell dry put me to sleep bud made me do this. I am glad I did thank you for the response !

Also if you do not mind me asking what is you're prefered brand for ballast and fixture? I see you have open air bulb. Very interesting! No hood needed all the hype for nothing ! Open bulb with climate controlled room intake and exhaust . Looks simple and effective. What is the power bill like with you're flower room light setup/ montly cost as well? Rough estimate is fine not trying to be nosy. What veg lights do you use in other room? I have T-5s with full spectrum and 6000k to veg they do ok so far ready to get the flower light thats why i am here . Thanks again in advance for the advice .

If you don't already have it might I suggest getting a HPS rather than a halide.
HPS has more lumen per watt as well as a far better lumen maintenance and the lamps run cooler than halide.
The only downside to the HPS is less IR not much of an issue IMHO
With a seven foot ceiling the old school single ended fixture would be more suitable as the DE fixtures work better with more plant/light clearance.

Based on total bill each 600 watt bulb costs around $80 monthly, $40 for bulb and $40 for fans and ac/heat depending on season. Generally each 600 watts produces about 6 ounces every month.
No brand preference but i dislike electronic ballasts because they are disposable not fixable. Ushio bulbs are good but cheap ebay bulbs work about the same for half or less cost, Just remember to replace after 12 months is the key, i write date on reflector or wall to keep track.

Veg is 400 mh most of the year and swapped out for a collection of screw in leds the couple of hottest months, and 200 watts of t5 to root and get established under.
My main production room has a 600w mh and a 600w hps in a 5’x10’x7’ sealed set up with air cooled reflectors, shelf of fermentation jugs for CO2, window ac unit and a dehumidifier. Mostly I just water every two days topdressing as needed. Every couple of weeks harvest what is ready and replace with new plants. Like clockwork.

Also sometimes , in the coldest few months of winter i run an extra room with a bare 1000watt mh that helps heat the rest of the building. There is no ac or dehumidifier needed this time of year in this room.
The freestanding commercial building i grow in has no other heat source so rather than spending money on propane or electric heater i just run an extra room and get more weed instead of wasting my money.

Oh, and don’t be afraid to just build and grow. Once you get a bit of experience you can change what you don't like as you go.
An extra room is always nice too. That allows the option of shutting one down for maintenance/upgrades without stress or interruption of production.
