66's Strain Reports (First Run -- Spring 2007)

Hi folks

Here is my smoke report for my first successful run, which ended up late april/early may of this year. All of these strains have been curing for over a month and are ready for a report :headbange. You can see my grow journal for the below strains here:

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=832768#post832768

Anyway, here are the reports (more grow-related info in the gj). Btw, the pics are of just individual buds and are not representative of total yield.

Sour NLX x Haze (Female Seeds; "Sour" NL cut x Nev. Haze)

Pheno 1 (Haze Dominant; 11-13 weeks)

This pheno is by far the best of this run. I think with this one I got at least 75% nev haze. Look for the tallest, sativa-est, branchy xmas tree pheno. Nose is spicey, piney, earthy, floral which translates well to taste. No "sour" flavors detected. Early samples of this one were pure up clear, all-head high. Taken at 12.5 weeks this one is much more balanced with a body element (floaty and relaxed). Potency is an 8-9/10 and really cuts through anything else with little tolerance. I have seen other grows get this pheno and is the one to watch for if looking for a relatively straightforward representation of a good haze -- the smell and experience recall haze buds in amsterdam, mid-90s. Not a one-hit strain but one that most will not forget after a session, due to the good flavor and well-balanced, strong high. This plant was taller than the others on this run and had fairly loose, airy buds but was actually one of the better yeilders when left to build up on itself at the end. This one took nutes very well also.

Pheno 2 (Indica/NL Dominant; 8-10 weeks)

This pheno doesn't really get a fair report here as I had to cut it around 50 days as it started throwing bananas. With that, I still yeilded over an ounce off the plant and had no issues with pollenation. I should have let it go longer but I freaked and pulled it. Strangely, this plant has a tastey but very cheesy/savory unique smell and flavor. This is not what I imagine the "real" cheese strain is like (have not had it) but is a unique and interesting profile none the less. Even taken early the indica dom side of this one shows, as it packs a fairly strong/heavy, yet not too memorable stone. I would not select for this pheno, but it's not bad. There were only scraps left for the photo as I have smoked a lot of this one as it was the first to be cut.

Sour NLX (Grow Shop Alien (Freebie); SD x "Super" NL Cut (?))

Pheno 1 (Less Leafy; 8-9 weeks)

The two phenos of this one are very similar, with a slight bit more leafy-ness in one separating the two. Otherwise, the two phenos are practically identical. The parentage of this strain are questionable due to me receiving info that SNLX may/may not have sour diesel or may/may not have nl or ww genes, etc. Anyway, these plants were very easy to grow and very forgiving. Neither one has what I would call a "sour" dominant or even subtle flavor. Instead, they both have a very floral/fruity pleasant taste/smell. Overall, this bud reminds me of "grey berry" from the grey area coffeeshop, even though I doubt the two are related. As to the high, these are pleasant daytime smokes -- not overly potent. I would give these a 6-7/10 on potency, but an 8 overall considering everything.

Pheno 2 (More Leafy; 8-9 weeks)

See above.

Black Jack (Sweet Seeds; Black Domina x Jack Herer)

Pheno 1 (JH Pheno; 9-11 weeks)

I was very impressed by this strain even though you never hear about this breeder. Very easy to grow and mainly grew very vigorous. I had two of this pheno but lost one that got burnt. The one that I had left was a very pretty/photogenic plant. This one has a very nice floral spice/sweet skunk/ssh flavor profile. The stone doesn't quite match up with the big racy high of other jacks I have sampled, but it is there, just balanced out by the BD. This one is another daytime smoke that is very pleasant but not overwhelming.

Pheno 2 (Runt Pheno; 8-9+ weeks)

This one was an accident that never got transplanted and was going to be culled but got stuck back in the flower room on a whim. I ended up getting about 14 grams from a runt plant when it was done. I wish I had let this one grow out big as it showed a very attractive bud formation even when small. During growth, this one gave off a very sweet, soapy, mentholared berry smell. This has waned a bit but it still has that very sensual, complex smell and flavor to it. This is one to save and break out for that super flavor bomb at the end of the night. The high is similar to Pheno 1 above (7/10).

Master Kush (Nirvana; Skunk 1 x (Hindu Kush x Hindu Kush)(?))

Pheno 1 (Tall Pheno; 8-10 weeks)

I only ended up with one of these so I called it the "tall" pheno as it seemed somewhat tall and lanky for a MK. I tell you, for the money, Nirvana is hard to beat. This plant went about 9.5 weeks and ended up nicely frosted and yielded well. The flavor is a somewhat muted skunky, hashy, old-school weed smell, with a floral/grapey background to it. Very easy to grow. With a cure, the buds break up nicely and have a very relaxing potent stone -- 8/10 on potency. This is a nice strain to have after the haze shown above as it smooths out any rough sativa edges from the stone. Definitely recommended for the price.

Hope that was helpful, started a Nirvana WW run yesterday, a grow journal for which can be found here:

Wow! people really need to start admiring this smoke report. Normally, I don't kiss ass, but with buds that look like that I'll even wear lipstick. :kissass:

Do you have a favorite 66?

Order 66, how does your homegrown compare to the stuff you smoked in the 'dam or the stuff your friend gives you? Would you say your stuff is coffeeshop quality and if not, do you think that it could be if you had more experience?

I've been to the dam 4 or 5 times now. It's a lot of fun to smoke and buy openly but, to be honest, I find the majority of their pot lacking. The grey area and 2e kamer, among others, being exceptions. Weed there is often not nearly dry enough, is chemically, or is just lacking depth in flavor or high. That said, other weed there, such as some of the dna strains I sampled at grey area last trip were on a whole nother level. The stuff I've grown is just "different" from most amsterdam weed. Maybe similar potency, but nice and dry and well cured and an emphasis on flavor rather than chunky nugs. It's hard for me to compare. On the other hand, my friends that were/are long-time growers do grow better stuff than I do, whether from the genetics, to the growing, to even stuff like trimming. I'm catching up though, got some nice nice nice wonder diesel in the hopper, about a month or so out from harvest.

I've read another post on ic about grey area as being especially good.
Wow, I would have never thought that Amsterdam weed would be considered 'eh'. Of course, that's because you and your friends grow stuff that's equal to or better than what they have. Which is the great thing about growing: you can have super dank stuff available year round for minimal cost!
You had some dna strains that were out of this world? Did you ever consider buying their beans because of that experience?

Don't get me wrong, most Amsterdam bud is much better than what is for sale in the USA on the streets. Now compare either of those to some homegrown someone's been slaving over of for four months personally, with heart, and there's just no comparison. But it's still hella fun to buy and smoke all the different strains openly. The average Amsterdam weed is nothing to write home about, but do a little digging and there's treasures aplenty, plus the hash -- that's a whole nother conversation. I love good maroc hash.

Yes. The strains I smoked on my last trip at Grey Area (July 07) were some of the best buds I've ever had, and I've been smoking since 1994. Sour Lope, especially, stood out to me -- like a cross between sour diesel and c99 -- unreal. I don't think they offer that one in seed. Also, tried the grey area ssh which was ungodly. Funnily enough I went to the DNA store in AMS after going to the grey area. The guy, frankly, had a real negative vibe not toward me but toward other breeders in the scene, including several that post here and I know are the real deal. That put me off big time. Plus they were trying to pitch this "reserva privada" group of strains thats allegedly from some med grower in cali. I smelt a bit bs and just didn't buy anything, even though I'd like to try their cannalope and d-line strains. I think what they sell to Grey Area is clone based and is not necesarily representative of their seed strains. In any event, they do have the bomb genetics, just not sure that they bring the love to the party. That said, I've tried many of Rez's strains and if there was a coffeeshop that sold his gear (grown, dried, and cured well) it would probably be as good or better than anything the grey area has now.

Thanks for the reply, order66! Yeah, I figured that what you had in the grey area must be clone only stuff if it's that good. I doubt there's any strain from any seedbank that is guaranteed that every female is ultra dank.
And I'm happy you feel that way about Rez's genetics, I have a pack of DoubleStrawbDeez on the way!
