600w vs 1000w air cooled hoods

I am wondering what your opinions are regarding 600w vs 1000w hps in air cooled ss2's or xxxls.(read pico's latest review).
I have heard that 600s are more efficient, that you could run 2 600s vs a 1000..? But so many people seem to be using 1k's and not 600s...?

only other choice if you need the penetration and have space for one light only would be a two socket fixture

I ran 1000s in one op. Now running 600's because they are supposed to be more efficient. I would rather have the 1000's for penetration and bud density.
