Hi guys

right now i am planning on putting 600super hps and 400 super blue mh in one growzilla hood.

I have heard mixed reviews about the growzillas and want to know if i should reconsider for 1 super blue hybrid 400mh/600hps bulb in a sunsystem

pls help, as i need to order my equipment soon

1k sunmaster warm delux, from start to finish. will thoroughly illuminate a 3x3-4x4 foot area, whether in hood or bare bulb.

hortilux eye good too.

regular mh bulbs ok too, when mixed w/ good hps.

a 1k will saturate a 1 square meter circumference/surface. so will 400+600. depends on needs of indv. garden which will work (best).

me tent is 5x5

it will only have 6 plants which will likely occupy 4x3.5-4'x4'

what i am looking for is efficiency

I dont want to use two seperate hoods because i feel one side of the tent would get more mh than hps

will a 1kw yield me higher quality of more buds, or will the dual bulb mh/hps single hood?

thanks again guys :ying:

in that area, 1 1k will thoroughly illuminate that area.

have not run 400's until recently. have 2 1k's (1mh+1hps). 400 mh in middle. brightness of 1k next to it makes seems like is only half way on.

generally allocate 1 1k per 3x3-4x4 area. if had choice, would stick w/ 1 light, if only for maintenance sake. if desire to place additional lights, place 40w uvb tubes vertially on walls. will increase reproductive gland production.

would also delete the hood from equation. just captures+holds heat, and reduces amount of light emitted from light. hang 1k bare bulb and forget about it...

while still building garden can test both ways... hood/no hood; to see which is brightest. 1k in 4x4 room will light that whole thing up equally w/ bare bulb. start plant on perimeter, then move in closer to bulb once mature. entire plant (from top to bottom) becomes canopy - not just tops, via reflector method.

hope this helps. enjoy your garden!

Sounds like 1kw will be perfect, I'd just go with a single ballast and bulb. Now, as to whether the 600/400 bulb, or just a straight 1kw bulb, that depends on how tall you want to grow your plants, and whether you are more concerned about quality or yield. The 600/400 will give you a bit more quality, the 1K a bit more yield.

If you want to grow 3+ foot plants, you'll probably need the penetration of a 1Kw HPS. If you are growing shorter plants, say 2 (or maybe 2.5) foot plants, the 600/400 will have sufficient penetration.

Assuming you are using the same bulb (and pheno) in both cases, if you have shorter/stockier plants, you will get more larger/denser buds, but slightly lower yields. If you have taller/lankier plants, you will get more smaller/fluffier buds, but slightly higher yields. Either way you'll get awesome main colas, but the rest of the buds will be fewer and larger with shorter plants, and more numerous and smaller with taller plants. This is a very general rule, of course, and there are exceptions.

P.S. -- I must respectfully disagree with Purple, and suggest that you use a high-quality horizontal reflector. It will not just capture and hold heat, it will also direct considerably more light to your canopy. Not that I don't like vertical bulbs (I grow with vertical 1Ks myself), I just don't feel that it is a very efficient method unless you have huge plants and many bulbs or a vertical SOG. Feel free to test both in your garden as Purple suggested, but you'll need a light meter to do so.
