600 watters and bud density

L

Greetings trichophiles.

I have used 400 watters in the past and found it to produce airy buds. That was long ago. I switched to 1000 watters and have had ridiculously dense buds since.

I am about to be setting up a new garden spot and am going vertical for the first time. In my studies I am finding that it will be WAY more efficient to use 2 stacked 600 watters instead of 1 1000 watter as far as coverage.

My question is will 600 watters produce as dense of buds as 1000watters or will they be more like 400s where it is difficult to get the rock hard nugz? I know it depends on dialage of the room but setting that aside.

Thanks all!

600's can give great quality in SOG type setups with smaller plants but if you're trying to grow big plants (bushes or trees) the lack of penetration becomes an issue.

I shoot for 3-4oz per plant and 1kw bulbs make it easy.

growing vertically, with good air flow under a bare bulb... you will be able to get them plenty close to outperform a 1000w bulb in a less than ideal position due to reflected IR heat from a hood.

Check out the vertical forum to know more.

Catch.

I find about 14" is how deep the canopy is of hard nugs when grown under a 600w. It is about 24" with a 1Kw IME. Now with the vertical style, are you growing tree style or are you going with a Colosseum style grow? I think the 1Kw would be better for the trees and the 600w fine for Colosseum grows.

Sorry but if you post a reply on this, please have some experience and proof to back it up. Of course I get 50 newbs with 12 posts telling me the "inside scoop". If I have all the buds that close to the light then it kinda makes the point of doing vert null (fukkin duh).

Screw it, I'm just gonna stack 2 1k watters, cause I don't want to even waste the time and money to make weed fluff and I don't want to have to have buds sitting on top of the damn bulbs just to get something real and dank.

I get no fluff with 600 watts or 1000 watts. I grow vert and spend some time getting my buds one bud deep at about 20 inches from the light. I use reflectix behind so no light is lost. Both 600 watt and 1000 watt are the same distance from the light and both produce no fluff.

Sweet. I've been watching your vert scrog in there Ichy, nice style w minimal plants. Thanks for the insight.

Mine is either going to be a diy larger version of EcoSystem 2, or a lot like Farmhouse Cats except w coco dtw. If I end up w coco I'll prob go ahead w stacked 1000 watters and a flip box for two flower areas. Checkin out Heath's 600 watter for some ideas but will be going at least twice as much wattage.

I use 4 600's and lolly pop quite a bit on the bottoms. Sometimes the buds are too dense and I usually pull 4-6 zips a plant in a 8x8 area.

nothing beats a 1k imo with its penetration, but i love my 600s as well.. keep em close to the canopy and move the air.. lolipop and you will get nice firm buds.

i use 600s and the bud density is proper. 2-600s stacked will work well instead of 1-1000 in a vertical situation just fine. different situations call for different wattages. 1000s are great and the penetration is hard to beat. they throw out a tremendous amount of heat. sometimes, it may not be the right bulb for the application.

I love my 600... But I like an even canopy too...

600Watter's can give you great bud density (mine are around 8"from canope air cooled hood)light don't go further than 15" in the canope

Stack the 1k's IMO no point in downgrading ,I wouldnt consider the 600 unless temps are an issue. Then i would still probably go with a dimmable 1k

I'm pretty sure your skills have increased since then. My 400w nugs always go *Thunk* on the tray. Nothing fluffy here, and that's with sativa-dom hybrids. Not *exactly* the same as my 1000w buds... but definitely respectable.

If you're growing chunky nugs with a 1000w... I'm pretty sure you'll get the same with the 600w. It's all about light density for your given space. :D

Yeah, I think I am just going to stack 2 1000w's w the flip box. My last horiz grow w 2000w's on a flip I got .83 gpw for a total of 7.4 lbs. Looking to switch to vert and get above 1gpw so my goal is 9lbs for the total of 4kw. As soon as construction is underway I'll post in the vert forum.

Thanks everybody.
