Im doing a closet grow and the space is 75 cubic feet. Is a 6" Vortex overkill, it moves 449cfm. Should i get something smaller or will this be ok to use?
Pretty hard to tell without the lighting and ambient temp specs but it's hard to overkill on ventilation. You could always get a speed controller to slow it down a little anyway. If you are looking for an example I once had a 6" Fantech (220cfm) cooling dual 250w CMH's in a 28 cubic foot cab and it was enough.
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Yeah i should have added im going with a 600 HPS. But your example says enough. If your 220cfm fan handled 500 watts in a smaller area my 449cfm fan should do more than enough ventilation.
I vent 2-400Ws in a box your size with a 6" vortex no probs whatsoever. It is on the touch over side, but if you wire in a rheostat you can adjust it at the touch of a knob.
a good way to check to see if it is too powerful is to go by the windows in the room and see if you can feel a draft coming in... i once hooked up a 8 inch 747 cfm fan into a closet grow, and i had a constant stream of air coming in through the windows, through the closet...
i had to install a variable speed controller on the fan and slow it down
ill hook it up and see what happens. its what i have anyway and i dont feel like spending extra money on another fan. ill check the windows like you said and see if i feel a draft. thanks for the help guys. + rep for everyone.
