does anyone have a link to a similar v-8 nhra drag car (not funny car, or nitro) just a v-8 that can do the quarter mile in 6 seconds im not saying the 4 cyl eclipse engine is better than every v8 (maybe it is as far as liter/displacement/hp ratio) i am just curious if someone can post a vid of a v8 doing the 1/4 in less than 7 seconds?

i had an allegiance to american muscle... but the first time I dropped the clutch at 5500 rpm spooling 20 psi through an 18g, i fell in love.... i love dsm's!

I personally haven't seen it, but I imagine that there are some v8s that can pull that off. To put it in perspective, though....one that same youtube page, I saw a link for a 1,900hp viper running 7.9. Over a second slower....and 1,900 horsepower. I think that gives us an idea of what this car is packing. Any car can do it.....but for a 4 cylinder..that's impressive. I do remember seeing an integra in this one mag. Ran ~6 seconds...I think it was about 50-80lbs boost running ethanol.

Seriously that track looks like 1/8th mile track not a 1/4 mile. I could be wrong though.

but it would be hard to go 198 in the 1/8th of a mile, so it must be a 1/4 mile.

I blew the engine on my 96 Talon Tsi (same as eclipse gsx - turbo+awd - ). About to buy a refurbished one and drop it in there. The 4g63 engine is considered by many to be the best 4 cylinder engine ever made. Go dsm.

DRock: At first, I was thinking 1/8 mile, too..but the 198 mph is the only thing that confirmed the 1/4 mile.

hope you all switched to the stronger 1st gen bolt pattern if you have a 2nd gen dsm.
definitely nice quick cars and relatively cheap to mod.
verite has a great point in the thread though. You're watching a video of a heavy duty tube framed car that most likely has a fiberglass, carbon, or kevlar shell.

Sure, plenty of cars with bigger engines aren't as fast or as quick. Just keep in mind that the fastest cars in the import series for a while were toyota solaras using v8 (they were dipping into the mid sixes at 200mph+ all over at the end of the season a couple years ago when i actually followed that stuff and still read super street, import tuner, sport compact car, etc). I'm all about the imports myself, just like to understand what the facts behind the issue is.
