6" Aircooled Reflector hoods

I was just curious, i want to cool 2 1000w hps lights through 6" aircooled hoods. My question is if i pull fresh air from outside to cool these lights, in the winter months in northern canada the temps outside go as low as -35 C or -30 F will this really cool air somehow react with a hot bulb and explode? Or can there be any ill effects of this super cold air comming across the bulbs?

thnxs for your reply Pseduo

I guess if they can sit outside all winter and turn off and on it shouldnt be a problem.

The exhaust frrom the lights will be hooked up to the house ventalation but with the cool temperatures of the intake air i dont suspect to have much heat.

Anyone have experince in this or an opinion?

How about a "Y" adapter that would allow you to switch to inside intake and only get outside air when your temps warrant it?

Just a suggestion....saw some stuff like that on HVACquick today

I vent 3 1k HPS lights into the central heating of my home. I''d say its about 45-50 degrees out side right now and It will get colder. There are a few ways you can do it.
Winter: Don't even worry about venting the lights with outside temps at numbers you spoke of... you can bring all the cold air you need in any time you want, and still regulate temps easily.
Summer: Due to the seriously cold temps you get in winter... it must get as hot as monkeys ass in Africa during the Summer months, and thats when I'd hook up the 6" vented lights to move excess heat out of the room.
Most want to set it and forget it... but I'm learning that you can do different things at different times of the year, and then set your room(s) accordingly.

DeebeeAhhSee - In the summer it doesnt get warm for too long...bout a month or so of the summer temps are at 80-85 outside. I am in the process of constructing a 6'x10'x8' wooden frame and i am going to poly the outside of it kinda like a grow box. It is going to be sitting in my basement and i have acess to a small window and had thoughts of pulling cold air in from there to supply ventalation with the lights, and the room itself. The room itself will have its own 6" elicent fan on a thermostate and humidstat to controlll the temps perfect. thanks for the post!

My next move is to try a stadium grow... and I'm counting on winter temps to cool my room with the 3 bare 1k bulbs. But as late spring comes I'll probably have to go back to vented lights. Good luck to you.

One problem you'll get pulling that cold air into that hot room is massive condensation inside the room. You can beat that by cycling your light fans on and off. I would be careful with -30f air hitting one of those bulbs though, maybe try it with one bulb first. Good luck.

only way is to try, are you connecting to an inline fan? , then you can get the adjustable controller and see if it works with one of them.

what about venting air from your house, must be cool already?
