5/7 Flowering

Try it. Then you will know. I've heard people talk of different flowering photoperiods other than 12/12. I've never seen anything to back it up though. DJ Short even claims to have his own photoperiod. He says its a trade secret and won't divulge it. I call bullshit on all of it. Who knows though. Run an experiment and let us all know.

I currently don't have the resourses to run this experiment. I have been wanting to try it out for a few years, but haven't had the chance. I was just wondering if anyone had actually tried it, and what their results were. I do run a 7h on, 11h 40m off schedual and it works great. 72 photo-periods in 8 weeks time! I haven't noticed any significant reduction in yield or quality over 12/12. I hope to try the 5/7 photo-period sometime in the near future, I will definitely post my results.

i don't have first hand experience with such cycles but from what i have gathered 7 hours dark might not be enough to trigger flowering. it is the lenght of the dark cycle that is important for flowering hormones building. i think 10/14 should work better.

Erm, no maui, as far as I know, its not about the total number of hours dark they have that controls flower, its the RATIO of light / dark hours that matter. (hence why some plants need even more dark than light to flower properly, like heavy sativa's)

the whole point of this is not about being close to 12/12. Its about still being the "right side" of a 50/50 split of light / dark, but effectively creating shorter days and nights, so we get more "cycles" in the same time-frame.

In theory it should allow plants to finish sooner, provided they dont loose too much production from the reduced length of the photoperiod. I guess it could be usefull for finishing off long-flowering strains sooner, since whether you do your flowering with 8 weeks of 12/12 or 8 weeks of shorter, more frequent cycles its still going to be roughly the same total light-hours on the plant, so should result in roughly the same yield.

Hey maui, not sure how much dark/light they need. I am still trying to figure that out, I was just wondering if anyone else out there may have tried a "less than" traditional light cycle. I currently run a 7h on, 11h 40m off light cycle with great results (9 light cycles in a week). The main reason I use this schedule is to shorten the time to harvest as I like "couch lock" I tend to flower indica dominant strains for 8 weeks.

:bump:

Exactly Devilman, I effectively get 9 light cycles in a 7 day week. I have not noticed a decrease in yield or potency with this schedule.

What a knob.lol
Hate people who try to keep secrets about natures herbs.
Its a privilege to have a knowledge of plants, and a duty to pass it on to help its preservation in times of cultural ignorance.

Interesting thread tho, so many thanks , im gonna keep an eye on it and try to learn something from it.

Can i ask what strains u running under the current lighting scheme u using danuttmahn

Does this shorten your total flowering time in days compared to 12/12?
Hi Socialist, yes it does by exactly 2 days a week. With a 7h on, 11h 40m of schedule you get 9 complete light cycles (a day to the plant) in a 7 day week. Example: flowering a plant for 7 weeks using the 7 on 1140 off schedule. 7 weeks X 9 light cycles (days) = 63 light cycles (days) Total. Now, 63 light cycles (days) Total / 7 actual days a week = 9 weeks of flower. I am currently in my third grow using this schedule. Again, in my personal experience I have not noticed any degradation in yield or quality. I am in my third grow using this schedule and will begin harvesting this week.

Hi StickyHands, I have only run DNA Connie Chung and Nirvana Aurora Indica at this point. I begin harvesting my third run using the 7/1140 schedule at the end of this week!

Dammit jim, its experimenting time!

Guess I am going to have to give this a go. I have a small flower box in a tote and I have a cast-off beauty for it as well, I was just gonna compost the girl, but now I think I will give this a try, thanks!

I have a friend using the 12/1 and its always heady. 1.5 years of experience but they won't come on here, lol.

Very intresting with the shorter photo time. Might try it next grow,I run long photo sativa's.

Are you going to try 5/7 or 7/1140? 7/1140 works great in my experience. Still waiting for the opportunity to try 5/7. Please keep us posted Smoking Lamp!

The person I got the 7/1140 idea from grows long flower sativa's as well. That is the whole reason this schedule works great, you get two "extra" flower days(light periods) each week. Works great for those of us that have no patients but still want quality meds. Good luck!
