4x4 Growhut 1000w 26oz... the student surpasses teacher

my buddy just finished his first indoor grow start to finish. he's a good cloner, can grow outdoors, but i believe he's never gone 12/12 indoor through harvest.

==Overview
-7 Blue Dream clones- pretty strechy sativa in 5gal buckets of soil
-1 bedroom, grower slept next to it in his room of a 2 bedroom apartment in a complex.
-4x4 silver edition hydrohut
-temps were in the mid/upper-70's under the light.
-passive intakes, ambient room temp around 62-68 degrees.

==Hardware
-1000w lumitek digital ballast outside the box
-air cooled sun system supersun hood, glass sealed with HVAC silver tape
-4" HO CAN 155cfm vented into crawlspace. pulled air through filter, light, and then out.
-25" CAN 9000 filter-got the job done.
-total CFM rating with fan/filter setup: 114 cfm

==Controls
-no thermometer, no temp controls/monitors- just a light timer.
-no pH/TDS/EC. just tap water in an apartment complex never tested for anything.
-basically nothing, absolute minimalism as far as setup goes.

==The Plants:
-7 Blue Dream clones from a NorCal grower, not a random club clone. has proven good to us.
-veg 10.5 weeks. lower 24" of the plants were wasted. (logistic probs delayed 12/12 switch)
-estimate veg was about 6 weeks too long- lotta wasted branches trimmed/extra work.
-hand-watered 2.5x a week with straight tap water, nutes added every other watering.
-59 days flower time 12/12.
-finished around 4ft from plant base, 5.5ft from floor, about 18" short of the light.
-used a teepe setup for each plant with bamboo and twine to holdup the heavy colas.
-box was over packed wall-to-wall.

==Soil
-50/25/25 mix of FF ocean forest/perlite/promix with some lime thrown in.
-fox farm grow/bloom/tiger liquid nutes, close to the recommended.

==Notes on growing in a Hydrohut
-avoid flowering topped plants in a growbox taller than 1-1.25 ft- obvious to all but the novice.
-modular SCROG would work here in a 4x4 hydrohut or similar. would be tight, but could work.
-straight SCROG in a 4x6 or 4x8 hydrohut w/ 2 front and 2 back doors, this would be optimal.
-SOG would be amazing- this is obvious, but legal considerations limits most of us.

==Notes on Equipment
-hydrohut silver edition gets an 8.5/10. only problem i see is the single door's zipper, looks like it won't last more than 3 harvest, but it's worth the $380 paid for sure in one run alone. the 4x6 or 4x8 would probably last longer due to alternating which of the four doors used.
-lumitek ballasts- silent and cool. 10/10 over the sun systems i've used and cheapos used.
-CAN Fan/filter get a 10/10 comparably to others used. bless Canadian manufacturing.
-Fox farm is old faithful. gets the job done.

==Other Notes
-unusually good city water, municipality does very good work
-good small ROfilter can be had for $130-160. 25-90 gal/day- plenty.
-pH/TDS/EC meter unnecessary if good soil, water and moderate, steady feeding occurs.

i'm pretty amazed with what he did. i was the teacher, he was the student. student surpasses teacher.

...gotta wait for pics, but for those of you considering a growhut (or similar quality product) this is a testament to how simple it is. tried to detail as much as possible without pics for those wanting the knowledge..

Blue dream- brought a bit home. shit tastes awesome, gets you nicely stoned. :)

no shit... was trying to upload pics just now. but they're on another camera. fuck.

don't know how much my teaching helped. more like a cooperative effort. i couldn't have done it myself, though he couldn't have done it without me. i'm the brains, and he's the common sense. yin yang kinda thing.

will have to wait another week until i get back there to get back there where the camera is.

update: 30 oz. didn't include lower/popcorn buds w/ initial weigh in.

can only figure the yield was such because of extremely long veg, which was managed pretty well considering the problems it created. ultra-mature plants, with massive roots, stems, and a maxed canopy helped.

pics to come next weds.

Nice work! What normally yields more in long run, longer veg bigger yield but less harvests. Or shorter veg smaller yields but more harvests?

in this case, probably some luck helped.

a full, uniform, healthy canopy- with many small plants or few large plants- is the key to big yield. gotta use the light most efficiently. using a single strain from clones are key to achieve this even canopy.

Fresh and tasty, less chance of problems on shorter grows(bugs have less time to develop) Big plants can mean huge problems for a new grower. Get in and out quick and you will get more by having no losses.

nice, Blue Dream tends to do that... too bad it's everywhere.

I am kinda jealous, i will probably not even get a full LB off my first 4x4 tent grow. props to your boy

Now Get your buddy some Kush clones yeah!

I dunno,....I had some 76 day blue dreams, and I'd say it was one of the BEST highs I have had in ten years

I was so impressed I went and got "a random club clone", we'll see how she works out.

I like blue dreams very much, even though "it's all over"
