4x4 1k SCROG

Evening folks,

I think it’s time I get to the posting of a thread before I get so far into things that it takes a long time to catch up.

The grow started with 6 clones in organic soil from a local, which I transplanted into coco/perlite. That didn't work out so well, and on advice from a friend locally, I switched to Roots Organics soil, as well as their nutrient line. I am using Roots Grow, Serene, and Trinity, as well as Hygrozyme and Rhizotonic, and Ful-Power. They’re running 24hr of veg lighting.

Initially the lighting was a 9 bulb 55w PL-L setup and the plants resided in a 2x3ft Home Depot tub. The final destination is a Secret Jardin DR120 with a 4x4 SCROG screen (1” holes, Home Depot plastic mesh) and a 1k MH and then HPS.

On to pictures:

12/2 – 2gal pots under 495w of PL-L’s in a DIY reflector (AKA not that great lol)
picture.php

12/7 – Transplanted to 5gal pots and moved them into my DR120 and put them under the screen. At this point I kept them under the PL-L’s as I had to re-duct for the 1k, I had moved things around a bit from when I first setup the ducting in the room.

12/11 – Got the 1k over the plants and the ducts ran.
picture.php

12/16 – There are a few leafs that aren’t so happy, much like before.
picture.php

picture.php

12/18 – I removed the screen and trimmed the heck out of the plants. I also dosed with Azamax and GreenCure.

And that brings us to today, more or less. I'm going to let them recover from the trim and grow a more bit and then flip to 12/12.

Any and all comments and feedback would be great!

Looks like you have a nute deficiency/ burn. Would definitely address that before you flip. Also, might want to look into a b-vitamin supplement, to help relieve some stress until the deficiency is cleared up.

Hi VG - I wasn't planning on trimming so much, but I was trying to open up the centers of the plants, or get rid of all the stacked foliage, and I kind of went to town. They've well recovered now. I'll post some pictures tomorrow night.

Trim looks a bit aggressive but they should bounce back. Check out how quick they bounce back. This was my last grow in the UC4XL under a 1k.

So it’s been a few days since the last update. The plants were flipped on the 26th and are currently under a 1k MH, which will be replaced with the HPS bulb hopefully tomorrow.

Anyway, on to the pics. First, the group shots from the last few days, forgot a complete front on picture last night.

To make it easy to see the growth, here's a picture from 12/18 when I trimmed them.

I have a couple mothers going. I just received 4 of these (the most trimmed of them, as I just took 3 cuttings each) and the other 2 are about 1mo from being cut off of the plants currently under the 1k, they are both Colombia Red’s, the best of which will be kept.

The clones I took last week aren’t looking so great, but of the last batch, some looked like this and then became rather strong little clones before I killed them off. We shall see how they turn out.

And 2 AK48 seedlings, 1 week since being placed in a damp paper towel, and about 4 days since being placed in the soil.

Does anyone have suggestions for a better oscillating fan for inside the tent? I am/was running a pair of 6" oscillating fans from Amazon, however they don't really oscillate but rather click and fail lately. One lasted a few days, one maybe a single day. Suggestions? Maybe a mount of sorts to move them out from the poles...

Well I lost some of the pics I took, and some didn't turn out well because my camera had been in my 30* trunk and shit...

Does anyone have a good suggestion for tent fans? I ask this because I am really rather fed up with the things I have. They oscillated at first, and now they click. I'm sure its due to too much pressure on them due to how the tent sits against them, but there isn't a simple way to hold them off the poles 2". I am considering 4 non-oscillating fans to fix it.

What do you mean to much pressure from the tent? Are they not being hung properly ?

What is the size of the tent again 5'x5'?

stu :joint:

Well the fans need to sit inboard from the edges of the tent. By being clipped to the tent poles, which the tent fabric is tight against when zipped up, it prevents the fans from turning both directions. I was considering welding some brackets onto the poles to hold the fans off 2", but then I'd have to deal with blanketing the girls and such... Not a fun time! Maybe using some hose clamps to secure bent steel to the tent pole...

4x4, like, perfectly.

Another idea I had for the fans would be to make some PVC brackets in the SCROG frame. That would have been a great before-making idea. Not so easy to add it in now...

How about beneath the canopy in the middle blowing up ?

Or being fixed wouldn't be a bad idea if you cant have modulating.

Either way as long as you have a fan blowing is better than no fan blowing.

stu :joint:

That would actually work out decently prolly. Humm. I'll try putting them under the canopy tonight when I water, I'll report back later on! Right now they are fixed, on opposite corners of the tent. Fixed position. I'm just considering 4 fixed in place of these 2 currently.

Well my AC duct work didn't work out so well. I turned it on 2 nights ago as the room temp hit 80 (tent itself was 84-85, plants show 0 sign of heat stress. With 1100ppm CO2 I am not worried about heat stress, but I'd like to keep it at a max of around 85, and thus AC becomes required) and last night I was inspecting it as it produced 0 condensation.. Well the back of my ducting job had blown out. We'll be hauling the AC down this weekend for repair, which I can easily handle. What I need some insight on is how I should install the AC! Right now its on a shelf I made and hung on the stud wall. The issue is that it causes massive noise due to vibration. When walking up to my spot, you can hear the AC running if you listen. Not good. I am thinking I need to either move the AC to be on the floor, or hung from the ceiling. Any ideas?

All pics taken 1/24. Its been 28days since they flipped, and 21 days since HPS. Bad call on leaving them under MH, but I was lazy/busy. They're drinking about 3qt every other day. Roots nutrients every other watering, using the 2nd bloom column now.

I fed them with the full line of Roots nutrients today (Addition of HP2 and HPK, didn't have those 2 before - friends ran without them the whole time and never had the deficiency I am showing), we shall see how they look in a couple of days. I hope they look even better. I also spent about 3hr over the last 2 nights working on bringing the bud sites up through the screen, and trimming out the under foliage. There is more to be done. I am hoping to have it done tomorrow night, or Sunday.

Ya I would trim all the foliage below the screen. Looks like there is quite a bit left. Other than that she looks pretty good.

What day is she at in these pictures ?

stu :joint:

31 days of 12/12, but the HPS didn't go on until day 8 or so. CO2 was off-and-on under veg and constant during flower (1 ea, 5 & 10 day periods w/o during veg, lazy and busy ftl). I'm going to trim up the rest tonight, hopefully I can get it all done. PITA! I'd like my tent to be about 1ft higher off the ground. ATM there is a 1ft table in the tent, but it'd be nice to have it higher.

And this precise reason, wanting more room and a higher canopy, is making me re-think room design. I am considering taking the tent-area and walling it off into two 5'6" square rooms, and run the screens and 1k's in each little room. Instead of tents, plywood and 2x4's. The reason I have yet to do this is the door swing, but it may be worth it. With the redesign of the built in box in the room, it should be nicely doable. I'll post up some drawings in a few days as to what I mean.

Life has been busy so not much of an update. I haven't had time/my camera with me much for the last couple of weeks.

The plants were roughly 60-70 days from clone at this point. They had been in coco initially (see first posts) and then transplanted into Roots Organics Soil. Full line of Roots nutrients.
