Great info, and follow up on last grow (between sun and moon)
I've always been interested in leds, so trippy looking, but the cost is still a little prohibitive

hey hazy
glad i found the thread so fast. the new white caps u are getting are known as hash tips.
they only occur in the proper lighting environment.
you need 66o nm red and the absence of 680nm red. at least 40% of the light must be 660nonometer red
with 680nm red present this will not happen
uvb light is also supposed to be neccesary.
if you would like to repeat this and actually create more of it go to the pet store and buy a few reptile UVB flouros and surround the leds with them.
i found the 4ft tubes online for my room.
HPS contains 680 nm red so this is not possable under hps.
i will be buying one of these LED units and some reptile lights for my heady stash strains in a lil tent.
then i get on here n see u with the tips lol
didnt u once tell me u thought they were more potent under the leds?

Great growing buddy!
i just learned of this over the weekend while i was out of town.
check out the SKUNK mag volume6 issue 4 for

wow the whitecaps are some cool stuff....and cant believe you those SDs performed so well under the LEDs...shit im using a 400 hps right now hah. 400 grams aint a bad haul hopefully i can pull something like that. if not might have to switch to the LED..

Very informative grow Hazy, thanks for putting up all the nice pictures and other goodies. It looks like that 345 watt LED light is where its at. Hopefully prices will go down so more growers can pick them up :tiphat:

Also forgot to mention. To keep the lights 6" away to stimulate. That's why only ur closer tops did this.
This would seem to benefit multiple tops. Start pinching or fim asap for that

I just wanted to update a bit.
No pics, but that's OK.

I only ran the 345 this time, in a 30" x 5' area.

The stuff out of the 30 by 30 footprint did terrible as expected. Under the light all was OK, nothing to brag about though. I had deficiencies going into 12/12 that they never fully recovered from. Plus I ran out of liquid koolbloom half way through the grow, and just couldn't afford to go get more.
So the buds were smaller, more like what I'd expect form a 400 watt hps. Which is not bad, just not great. No numbers, I've been chopping as the different strains finish and it's already gone.

I'll be using it again, but only over a 30x30 space.

Nice experiment Hazy!!! If it werent for growers like you then we would never evolve! Led, hmmmmmmmm....

Nice work sah!

I got OCD about efficiency and had thought about LEDs for growing as early as the 1990s, and remember when they first got out and my disappointment when they proved not-yet viable.. Just looking into them again after a long period of dissilusionment.. :D made my day

they do look phenomenal veggers. Can we draw the conclusion they outperform a 400hps watt for watt in flower too? does your "345w" lamp outperform a 400 hps on its own?

i've long since felt that actual watts consumed is the necessary measurement for calculating GPW rather than rating so if a 345w lamp draining 279w due to its power supply outperforms a hps draining 480ish.. that's a serious increase in efficiency.. would love to stack LEDs against a digi 600hps

even if it was the 345w and the 205w together that outperformed the hps you still had to spot the hps 29w... A free lunch? :D

That's a pretty sweet comparison you 've done Hazy. I'd bet LED sales are climbing....
Lookin delicious as always :good:
