48 hours of complete darkness before harvest ?

OK, I'm in a situation today where the plant that is ready has 90% cloudy trichs. A few have turned amber but, mostly they are all cloudy with a few clear and a few amber. Now, this plant also got accidentally pollinated and I would like some seeds. I am wondering if I were to place the plant in complete darkness as I've read would hamper the seeds maturity?
My plan is to cut the largest cola's off and keep the lower popcorn buds that are seeded to continue growing so I get fully ripe seeds.
Right now they are still white, I figure they need a few more weeks before they turn brown. I'm willing to sacrifice the lower buds quality to gain the seeds but, I don't know if I should just cut the cola's off and process them, leaving the plant in the grow room or if I can place the whole plant in darkness for the 48 hours, then harvest what I want and place the plant back in the flower room to finish up the seeds ?

Do you really gain much by placing the potted plant in the dark before cutting her down? Or should I just chop her up and hang the cola's ?
I plan on doing this today, either way because I don't want to miss the window of peak potency.

If your really worried give it about 20 hours dark and 4 hours of light. I don't know if the 48 hours of dark really does anything. Cannabis builds up flowering hormones during the dark period. This could give you a little extra push right before harvest.

Sometimes we pull ours...sometimes we don't. We do try to, but shit happens and order gets tossed out the window...busy times. I end up with great smoke regardless, so if you can give them dark...hey, why not. If not...don't sweat it:)

Hi Miss Blunted, do you know what the dark period would do to the seeds maturity rate if after the darkness, the live, trimmed plant were reintroduced to the flower regimen ?
I'm wondering if I should cut her where she stands, leaving the popcorn bud in place and just take the cola's ?

I'm not so worried about the potency, more than getting these seeds to mature but, I don't wish to allow the entire plant to go another two weeks.

Hi MK, I've never done this before so I don't know if it does improve anything.
Do you have experience in a dark period prior to harvesting ?

just harvest what ya want, then put the plant whereever, it will finish the seeds on any light schedule, heck, ive revegged a seeded plant while most of the plant was harvested, the left seeded bud and revegged, 3 lil bud sites gave me like 15 colas on the next flower, and about 40 seeds

Yep. Won't hurt it a bit :D Highly recommend it for what you're doing there.

Only if your grow environment sucks. Having a 48hr period of dark after a long stressful flowering can make them look really lush and nice (compared to before the dark period)
If your grow environment is dialed in you won't see much, if any, improvement at all. :D

LOL well my grow environment does pretty much suck ;>}
Are you saying, after the 48 hours and, I cut off what I want that I can simply place the rest of the plant in the corner of my bedroom and the seeds will ripen?

OK I decided it would be best for me if I simply took the buds that I want and leave the plant inside the closet. After reviewing my options, moving that bucket of dirt with the six foot tall, wispy plant I think it's best. I was afraid that I may break off whole branches just by trying to move the whole thing on my own.

Here are some pics of the buds I have chopped and trimmed.
I must say, this time around, I really enjoyed trimming these buds. It was so uniform and easy to remove the major leaves, unlike that first monster.
While the buds are not frosty and, they got filled up with seeds. I believe I may have harvested more from this plant than I did the frost-less monster.

Yeah, it does make sense and maybe I will be more able to do so next time around.
I do want to reconfigure my room and I've been waiting for this plant to finish.
Unfortunately, she got dusted with some Nepali pollen while I was waiting and I figure the seeds might make for an interesting cross.

After harvesting this plant, I was able to free up space in my room and do some rearranging.
I decided that reducing the footprint of this seeded plant would be best.
I hope she doesn't mind being all tied up like that ;>}

IME, she won't mind a bit. :D

Hi HS, yeah I didn't think so, especially since I just want the seeds.
I'll see if the buds are any good when I harvest them but, viable seed stock is what I'm wanting.
They may not be worthwhile in the end but, one never knows what a cross will bring.
I was able to really redesign my flower room today.
Tomorrow I will be putting up my Panda plastic I got a few weeks ago.
BTW, I have a situation with the Panda. The company that I ordered from made a mistake and sent me an entire case rather than the one package I purchased. They sent me an e-mail telling me of their mistake and want me to call them. I e-mailed them back saying I don't have a phone and could they write me and tell me what they want me to do. That was over a week ago and I haven't heard from them.
Should I just wait and see if they contact me or should I write them again ?
There were four packages of 10'x25' sheets. I bought one package.
