i have been reading . that some people have the lights off for 48 hours before they harvest. ive done many searches to find the reason to do this.and haven't found the reasoning for this practice. any insight on it would be appreciated. of a link to a forum that i have missed.
I've heard its because the plant has its nutrients/sugars/starches etc in the flowers/leafs during lights on, promoting growth and whatnot.
during lights off the roots have a lot of that stuff goin on, so by chopping before the plants are actively photosynthesizing for that day, you limit the amount of 'stuff' flowing thru the cell membranes of your flowers, thus making it 'cleaner'.
I have read that it will increase the resin production on the plant because the sun has not degraded it thoughtout the current day. I have tried it a few times, and i never noticed anything diffrent.
see Med Man's thread in the hydro forum. He talks about shock ripening, which entails feeding the plants plain ice cold water for a period of time with no exposure to light. He and other growers swear by it and I'm giving it a whirl next time around.
Also tried this to no effect. Actually I trim in the same room with lights on all day + the usual night and they just keep getting frostier with the extra light.
