465 CFM Datyon Blowers- how loud are they?

Hello all, I'm planning a small grow once I move out of state in August. Just a 400 watt HPS inside of a cab approx. 4 ft. L x 4ft. W x 6 ft. tall.

I absolutely HAVE to have odor under 100% control- so i'm wondering what carbon scrubber/blower set up I should go with.

Are these 465 CFM Dayton blowers really loud? What would you compare them too as far as noise? (hair dryer, vacum cleaner, box fan etc..) Just trying to gauge if it will be too loud.

What's the quietest blower I could get- I've heard that in-line fans are quieter, how much so?

Also, if I want to eliminate 100% of the odor- should I run a blower through a carbon scrubber located outside of the grow box, with the carbon scrubber inside the growbox- or could I run it through a carbon scrubber and then directly outdoors?

My ambient room temps will be approx. 72- 76 F max.

Any help you guys can offer would be fantastic,

Thanks for your time.

Hey I don't have much experiance as this is my first grow, but I just purchased a vortex 6 inline fan(I'm not really sure how many cfm's it is but its alot) and its not that loud. Not half as loud as a vaccum and if you get a speed controller with your fan you can turn it up/down speed and noise wise to fit your setup! I ordered my vortex 6" offline with a can 33 can filter(pretty big if you ask me) to take care of smell. If you need a cheap site to order from let me know I got both of those together for around 260$ which is good!

pull from the scrubber and take the air directly out of the room. Ask the guy at the hydro shop to size one up for you. The filters will work by pushing air through or pulling air through, but remember fans like to pull not push, so if you have the fan pushing through the filter you will likely reduce the life of the fan.

You can also have the filter setup two ways. The first way would be the most effective and would have you filtering the air as it is exausted out of the room. The second would be to set the scrubber in the room and place the fan directly on top of it with no venting. In the second scenerio the filter is scrubbing the air within the room and not exausting...it is less effective this way.

So ideally you would have the filter and fan inside the room, with vent tubing running from your filter to your exaust.

As far as the fan goes...if you are looking for something that is both powerful and quiet, I would go with a metal fan over a blower...Can-Fan makes a beautiful metal fan and they also make kick ass filters...

you can see in the growroom diagram that the filter is going to be located at or near the top of the grow space. The reason for this is because hot air rises, and this is your exaust.

*filter is located in the top left corner

Switched from a Dayton to a Vortex........much better.
Remember reading on OG about a year ago that someone had a fan made by Panasonic that was really super quiet. Perhaps someone else out there has some direct experience with one, I have not.

as for noise...a duct muffler is always an option :)
A duct muffler reduces noise by up to 25 dBA; for perspective, a reduction by 3 dBA cuts a listener's perception of sound by half!

A Vacuum @ 3 ft distance gives you a decibel level of 65..if you could add a muffler and reduce the decibels by 25 you would be at a decibel level of 40 which falls in line with normal levels seen in a quiet living room. I'd say the mufflers are pretty effective.

You will love a "6 vortex. They are quite and purrrrrr when you add insulated duct. You can muffle down a vortex, next to nothing, in sound. Plus the macdaddy warrenty of ten years is cool.

And inlines deal with bacpressure/static pressure much better than a blower.Search the net, there is a chart that pitts Eco Plus inlines against Daytons and you will be amazed at the difference.

Inlines are much quieter tyhan a blower and use less power to move a certain cfm.

Here is the link which has Eco Plus inlines pitted against Daytons.
