420 cleaner which do you prefer?

Been using 420 cleaner on my glass pipes for years. It seems if my memory is correct that it was mostly liquid and worked great before but lately it seems like it's half liquid and half crystals and it doesn't have the volume obviously and seems to leave glass pipes sticky which sucks ( no matter how much I rinse them ).

Help! Which pipe cleaners do you use or has 420 changed the formula and am I not doing something I should be as a result of this change?

This is Very important to me as I now rely on cannabis for my intractable pain ( which I had been prescribed 8 large percocets per day and I've been successful in riding this addictive pony down to only 1/4-1/2 pill per day plus cannabis) Any help would be appreciated and if I should have posted this over in medical, I apologize, please feel free to move it wherever appropriate.

Thx

I use a drill to clean the bowl, which is brass, and gets really coated with black gunk.

I use a piece of 1/4 inch threaded rod to clean the stem, which is a steel tube, and also gets really coated with black gunk.

I've never done it, but I figure the black gunk is a very potent but terrible tasting edible.

I've used Purple Power off and on for years, on all sorts of pipes/materials, even ones I probably shouldn't have (mostly though, it's been brass, metal, glass, stone, etc. which it's OK to use on).

I've got the 420 cleaner in the cupboard at the moment, and may have used it before, but I have enough decent pipes, that by the time I get them all dirty enough to cause me to clean them, the memory of past efforts is diminished a bit... if'n ya' know what I mean..

I may be old fashioned but I still use ISO and salt.

The salt really adds a nice abrasive effect and gets my glass pipes crystal clean.

I have heard people say you should not use alcohol on glass but I have never had any problems.

It was acrylic like old toke masters that did stand up to iso so well. Made them 'craze'.
I have always used iso and rock salt on my glass, if it needed more, heating the iso always worked.
Like to scrub them w/ a stiff bottle brush and baking soda prior to rinsing them.
One my first jobs was scrubbing out glass wear in a lab.
The term 'acid washed' has nasty memories attached.

I think the 420 cleaner is for bigger glass pipes, like bongs. I like the silicon 'sand' in the formula, never tried the older 420 without it. Just got to rinse thoroughly.

I guess I have glass pipes, some of are show, and others for go. A glass guy on ( can I say this? ) On etsy made me a dozen smaller pipes, with a slightly larger than average draw hole as I requested, color changing pipes that show the buildup rather quickly and I try to clean them, about a dozen of them every 2 weeks.

These are my work horse pipes, but if I'm enjoying my weed just to enjoy the weed then I try to use some of my much cooler pipes in the collection :)

I've used this this for years on...pipes, steams, bowls.

It's reusable. So get one of these...

and fill it with this....

Let it soak. Pull it out and rinse with warm water. Like new.

I use an asparagus cooker with 20-25% Zep citrus cleaner & water.

I have spare bowls for my bong sometimes just drop 'em in overnight before they get really gooky. If I let the bong go longer than I should I take it apart, put it all in the pot on the stove & bring it up to a simmer & turn off the heat before I go to bed. Otherwise just overnight soaking works fine with a little bottle brush action, then rinse under the faucet. The solution maintains potency through many uses so I just leave it in the pot. Works great for any kind of glass pipe. We keep spares, try to rotate 'em though to always have fresh ones.

I got turned on to the idea by Eighths-n-Aces who uses purple cleaner instead but it works the same. Properly diluted, citrus cleaner works for most everything. Good stuff. Home Depot carries it.

Jim Beam and pipe cleaners do the job in a wonderful fashion for me on my glass pipes. Nothing like supporting the Kentucky bourbon industry.

QFT, but getting spendy around here, I like to use 91% on anything I can reach w/Q-tips, pipe cleaners or a folded paper towel, then I do my GOJO cleaning routine.......

BrakeClean, I use Technician's Choice, 80% Heptane and 20% Ethanol. The pressurized spray makes it easy to use. The non flammable chlorinated cleaners are poison and difficult to use safely but Heptane and Ethanol are relatively safe.

I have drums of Hexane on hand for extracts, but it is a bit more toxic than Heptane and I no longer put it in spray bottles for cleaning. It is still used as a soak for glass pipes. The glass bowl with the tiny hole in the bottom cannot be effectively reached with implements so overnight soaks in Hexane then blowing it out with brake cleaner seems the easiest way to get the sparkle back.

One of the reasons I went to citrus cleaner is that aromatic hydrocarbons reduce the life of carbon filters. Smoking doesn't help them, either. Damned things are expensive. My grow, the workshop & the rest of the house are all the same air supply. It's pleasant to work with, won't eat you alive & rinses clean under running water. It's a snap when we don't let pipes get too gooky. Even when we do it just takes more time, not more work.
