Whats up all. I've decided to take some time and document my grow. Its my first grow, still a little worried about posting here but I see everyone else is just fine so Im gonna show my grow.

Setup:
1 x Hydrohut
1 x 400W MH (for veg)
1 x 400W HPS (for flower)
1 x carbon scrubber
2 x fans
fox farms ocean forest mixed with vermiculite and coco coir.

the plants:
3 x White Widow
3 x Big Bud
2 x Uknown

I have some questions and Im gonna need some help (the real reason why Im showing the grow). Hopefully the more knowledgeable can help me!

okok, here are some pics!

11 days after seeds cracked

13 days

Ok, heres a question for anyone. This plants leaves are like drying out it looks like. I dont know why, I keep them all watered. It looks like the leaf is scrunching up. I did check the ph, it is a little over 7! Im gonna get the ph adjustments tomorrow. Could the ph be why the leaves on this plant are scrunching like so?

(Update: Ok, so I made the pictures 1024x768, but I guess when I uploaded they all shrunk. Dont know if you can see it but its the top left plant in the following picture. the top and bottom leaves are a little scrunched. The left and right leaves seem fine.)

I don't really see what you mean about your plant being scrunched. And yes..icmag's pic uploader resizes pics that are 'too' big. Hopefully you will post more pics later on, best of luck in your grow!

Hi tokeitup1, Welcome to Icmag. Your plants look fine. Make sure you don't over water. Anyway I look forward to watching your grow and helping out where I can, have done a few grows of both of these.
Good Luck

Alright, I just watered them and gave them Fox Farm Grow Big nutrients. That should do it.

I have one more question. I have some little like fruit flys? in the tent and around the plants. I've killed a few already but how can I get rid of them?

yea fox farm is amazing. Well you could always just hang a couple of those sticky fly traps in the room to catch them, do you have anyidea how there getting in?

Hmm, no idea how they are getting in. The first day I mixed up the soil I saw just 1 of them. I think they got in from the fox farms ocean forest soil. Not sure though.

Anyway! I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH the plants!

I will post pictures later or tomorrow but...the stoner in me kicked in last night when I watered them...I mixed the ph down and the fox farms nutrients in the same gallon of water. And here I am watering the plants (being sure that I read the back of the fox farm nutrient bottle where it says "spray the front and the backs of the leaves"...lol well I didn't spray the back but I got the front of all the leaves pretty good. And as you can guess the ph down didnt mix well with the leaves! I have white specs on the leaves of my plants. Is this going to effect growth? Probably can't tell me much without photos but I will have photos up later or tomorrow.

man i hope they are okay!

Thanks for the help all...stay tuned!

There will be many valuable lessons to be learned ! I swear it never stops. It just keeps going, and going, and going.... which is really one of the best parts about growing! :lurk:

Your plants are looking "OK" but may need Nitrogen if the pH is OK.

The flies probably came in with the soil. Fly strips as mentioned may work.

You don't need to spray the leaves with anything if you want my advice. Spraying leaves asks for problems UNLESS you MUST do some sort of remedial foliar treatment.

Did you add 2 Tbls/gallon of dolomite lime to that soil mix?

If you are using Fox Farm products, I really doubt you will need any pH "Down". Mix up your nute solution with everything you are going to put in it. THEN check your pH. If the pH is below 7, use it. DO NOT screw around trying to get the pH exactly 6.5 or whatever. It is simply not necessary... If you have properly limed soil.

I would recommend you get a PPM meter. Fox Farm is potent stuff...At least GrowBig, TigerBloom and Beastie Bloom are IMO. Strains will vary in their needs but I would begin with PPM's under 500-750 and maybe work up from there. I like to feed more often ,but with a more dilute mix than many here do.

PS

I grow in a HydroHut mini under 400W too. I also used FF products for my haze grow that is just finishing up week 11/12..another 2 weeks to go. Thank God LOL! :joint:

Day 24 (from crack of seed) Update

Day 24 (from crack of seed) Update

I didnt put dolomite lime in my soil. All i did for the soil was take ffof and coco coir and I made a soil mix using 50% ffof and 50% coco coir. Then I added some vermiculite because the only perlite i could find had miracle grow...and i didnt want miracle grow.

Here are the plants today. I just used a gallon of water with 2 tsp fox farm grow big. Some have already dried out within 16 hours of them being watered. I may give those another drink. It seems that I have a nutrient deficiency. I dont think its nutrient burn and its not light burn and it looks like nitrogen.

Ok, so here they are:

This last picture is an unknown strain. Its already looking real good. The 2 unknown are the greenest and healthiest in my batch!

Thanks for reading all, let me know what ya think

I'll try to respond in more detail this afternoon if no one else helps you. BUT you have got to get some lime in that soil, or better, transplant into soil that has 2Tbls/gallon of dolomite lime in it. If you don't you'll have some very difficult pH problems. And you need to do it SOON IMO.

Hi again:

I'm leaving town for a week so I may not be able to respond further.

I would suggest you visit the organic forum and read up on soils in the sticky notes. There's VERY good info over there to help you IMO.

Make a soil like one of those mixes Burn One has listed. You MUST add lime to all these soil mixes or else you risk having major nutrient problems. NO amount of fertilizers or anything else you give those plants will matter if the plants "growing environment", (it's pH) is wrong. Period. And I don't care who else says different. They are wrong. Having your soils pH in the proper range and properly buffered (from dolomite lime) is absolutely required for a sucessful grow.

So go read Burn Ones and other good growers notes there. It doesn't matter if you aren't growing organically or not. The soil building and general rules apply to all grows.

So make yourself some new soil and transplant them into it as soon as you can. Try to retain as little old soil as possible BUT do NOT do so at the expense of your baby plants roots systems. Be careful transplanting. Done correctly, it won't harm your plants.

And until then DO NOT feed them anything except pH adjusted water. You give them ferts in a bad pH environment you will probably kill them at this stage....pH of water between 6.0-7.0 I'd also pot up to a slightly larger pot size with the new soil.

Good luck with it.

The soil I purchase is already ph adjusted.

Ok all, sorry for the wait, heres an update. Things are looking sweet :rasta:

By the way. I flipped the 12/12 switch on sunday night. Lets see some females!

Ok, well Im having a problem! It reaks inside the tent. BIG TIME. when i zip it up, its still smelling. I put my nose in the air from the fan that sucks through the carbon scrubber....and it smells like a garden. I came home to my appt today the whole place reaking of plants...not skunk yet thank god but just a very potent plant smell. Not too bad but definitely noticable if your in the apartment. My parents will come here within the next few weeks...I need an idea for the smell! what should i do??!

Heres the scrubber:

Ok, I also built my own scrubber and hooked it up. I followed a DIY tutorial and spent about $35. Got everything I needed, screen, activated carbon filter, 1 end cap, 1 4 inch metal duct and tape. I hooked it up, and it worked even worse :cuss: what to do?!
