400 watts in 650 x 400?

Have someone wants to know if he can get a 400 watt in a cabinet grow 650mm x 450.

If this has been done in so small a cabinet a thread link, or advice would be gold.

We can get whatever it takes to reduce heat etc but of course space is an important issue.

Thanks in advance

sure it can be done. imo it's a bit of a waste tho. that light can easily handle 2x as much space. if you're buddy insists on using that cab, i would recomend that he mount the light "air cooled, skylight style" in a ceiling above the grow chamber to help keep it cool.

once apon a time, i stuffed a 250 hps and 320 watts of floro into a 4 sq ft closet.

nice rofl.

You know how it is, friend ignores your experienced advice and begins buying toys he doesn't need...

There will be a fish tank on top of it. He's going for double glazed glass to keep heat out plus air removal. I've asked for multiple photos of everything so here's hoping...

I think if you can remove the heat there's gonna be lots of light for growth though! Will be fun.

your buddy could avoid the double glazed glass. he'll loose a lot of light going thru 2 panes. as long as the light is air cooled, a piece of "double strength" glass is fine. also acts as a "fail safe". in the event of fan failure the glass breaks, allowing the heat to escape, avioding a fire.

could you explain that a little more, RM, how that prevents a fire? where is the glass, above the light? is it somehow connected to the fan? sorry i got lost

TH i assumed you meant the aquarium was made out of double glazed glass, to avoid heat, but i guess that's not the case. i think part of the brilliance of this design is that the lights can heat the aquarium, replacing an aquarium heater.

from those dimensions i would be tempted to TRY a 250 watter, a 400 no way, i agree with RM, it's a waste. in that space i think CFL is the way to go--i have a cab that is just slightly smaller. of course up there in the states you guys got fans and filters aplenty so if money isn't an issue, try the HPS. or if your friend is trying to break records put a 1000 watter in there, with 18 fans and an airconditioning unit. place the plants inside the A/C
