400, 600 or 1000

For a 4x4 area should I get two 400w CMH's, one 600w digital HPS, or one 1000watt HPS? Sorry if this has already been asked...

Cheers...

If you have the height and the cooling to handle a 1K, that's what I'd do. I was impressed with what my 250 did until I saw someone else growing the same thing with a 400.

Cooltube, 8" Westaflex 440cfm exhaust, passive intake, ebb/flow table 3x3, in a 4'x6'x8' room...

It depends a little on how you intend to use the vertical space.

Since you're set on an 3'X3' ebb and flow, table, I presume that you will place the reservoir below the table (space issue). Setting the table at waist height gives you roughly 3' to 4' to work with maximum in height. You may not even need that if you intend to do SOG or SCROG.

If so, then forget about the 1000w bulb. You can use one with good results, but it will be slightly overkill for a 3'X3' area, and the depth penetrating capacity of the 1000w bulb (according to the Inverse Square Law) will also be overkill for the vertical space.

If you plan on growing medium height plants (approximately 3' tall) I'd go for the 600w on digital ballast, and if you plan SOG or SCROG grows I'd set two 400w bulbs next to eachother. That way, the light will be better distributed over the horisontal area, while the lower penetrating capacity of the 400w bulbs will be enough for the shorter plants.

complete air exchange every 4-5 minutes is average for a grow room/greenhouse. for heat control i like to use 2.5 minutes (M) {1M is best imo}
m=air exchange in min's
l x w x h = cf / m = cfm
4x6x8=192 / 2.5 = 80
192=highend
80=lowend
if your temps brought in are 80+ that's as cool as the rooms going to get

exhaust system and air-cooled hood should be separated but most cant/dont ( it's spendy) so add them together
(my cfm on my lights are prob a lil high but i like to be safe )
400 need's 200-250 cfm
600 need 250-300 cfm
1k need 300-350 cfm

you are running a 440cfm -SP (static pressure)

with the fan and room size id say no on a 1k and really 2 x 400 might be a lil hard to cool as well you might get away with it if there cmh... but i think your best bet is a 600 unless you step up and buy a 2nd fan (265) then run the 440 fan to the 1k or 2 x 400

Long ago and far away - in a galaxy somewhat simular to this one, I bought a 1000W HPS/MH convertable unit on eBay. Since then - there have been a couple more - always 1000W for flower room - I do use 320W floro and 400MH for veg areas

Without a doubt - the best money I EVER spent. - - well besides good beans, soil, Ph testers, TDS meters, nutrients, fans and scrubbers, AIR COOLED HOODS and a LOT of reading/studying and listening.

Oh and glass pipes and bongs and rolling papers; - for testing porposes

PS, and,,, If you learn to be succesfull, words like schwag go from a menu item; to a term of - well, at least loathing.

From what I have read a 600w lamp on a digital ballast is the most efficient lighting available to hobby folk.

You could always do 2x 400w over a 6x2 or 6x3 table.

I'm personally about to set up a 600w over a 3x3 table and next year expand it to a 3x5 or 3x6 table and put the lamp on a light mover.

he will be if he cant cool it.... :fsu:

i agree 1k's are best..... but if you cant cool it there's no reason. all he will do is get low yeilds and shity looking plants from high rez temps.... :bashhead:
