Hi Everyone
wave.gif

Well this is my first post on IC as only just joined. I've grown for years on and off. "more on" Anyway this is the first time i've used such a small area or cfl's too. "i think Dr Buds thread and afew other got me thinking lol" So 4"x2" split in half 2"x2" for veg and 2"x2" for flowering with 300w cfl in each. With cuts every two weeks growing in 2 litter bottle cut in half. and 5 rows of 5 cuts which has been giving me 5 grams dry per cut every two weeks
jump.gif
. So now im going to up size abit and use the 4"x2" for flowering giving me 10 rows of cuts and a new mother box. I've been thinking about the best way of lighting this area any ideas or comments i would love to hear them especially if they help with bigger yields. Thanks for looking and be lucky.:tiphat:

mate i mean this in the nicest way possible but what the fuk

have you looked at alternative ways of growing you could get bigger yields continous harvest and save yaself a lot of money ??

you already have a veg room ideal for growing autos and you already have a flowering room ideal for 12/12 from seed both methods would result in bigger harvest and continous yield

or grow mothers in veg side and cut her and have continous harvests that way

or scrap the flower room save on electric and just grow autos

or scrap the veg room and just grow 12/12 from seed but use sativa strains

Hey i hear what your saying but i have very little space and there are to many nosey people about. I cant really say i've spent alot money really and i'm not buying my smoke any more! And growing out doors is fine but your weather lets us down before the plants are fully ready. But I'm aways open to different ideas as you never stop learning!!! So hit me with it????

Are you running 300 watts of CFLs or 300 watt EQUIVALENTS? The difference is day and night. What bulbs do you have plugged in? If you're actually running 300 watts your yields are tiny.

Good question bluethumb, one which i'm not 100% sure of the answer too. I bought the bulbs online and don't know who manufacturers are. But i can tell you that they 12" long and called giant 9u cfl. I would guess they are 300w equivalents but can't be sure. Remember i'm only flowering in 2"x2"x and just under 4" high. Which i can fit 6 rows of 5 cuts max, which if you work it out 4"sq 5 grams a cut will give me 150 grams. Well over 5oz's bud. But if anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them.

high man, good to have you on board, it's always nice
to meet another grower, especially another micro-grower.

anyway, as i was heavily influenced by DrBud myself
and have been growing small plants ever since then,
i figured i'd pass on a couple things that come to mind.

first, i looked up that bulb you spoke of above and i'm
pretty sure that 300watt number is actual and not just
equivalent.

now, a couple downsides i see in using those high-watt
bulbs are that they get HOT because the ballast is built into
the base of the bulb and ballasts get hot, plus, with only
a single high-wattage bulb, you only have one point of
light and only one spectrum of light, unlike lower-wattage
CFL's (when i was flowering under CFL's i used common,
easy to find 23 and 26watt bulbs that averaged about $1.00
per bulb and because i used multiple bulbs i was able to
tailor the spectra delivered to my girls)

another thing i did different is i grew in 1liter bottles
rather than 2liters so i was able to fit more in my space,
my cab holds 10 rows of 5x 1liter bottles. the point i mean
to make here is that i averaged about 7 grams per plantlet
in those bottles so you might be able to increase your yields
simply by using smaller pots.

now, lol, heres the kickers, first, if you can afford to spend
a few dollars i'd recommend switching away from that
expensive high-wattage bulb (when it dies i guess) and
instead using PL-L's which are a remote ballasted type
of CFL which is much more efficient than ordinary CFL's,
including the high-watt bulbs and because they are remote
ballasted, they run MUCH cooler.

another thing that may help increase your yields,
although i can't swear to it yet as i'm just now
making the switch myself, is to switch to Smart-
Pots, or Air-Pots which both work to air prune
the roots which cause your plants to grow a much
more vigorous root system than regular pots.

btw, while i have a few Air-Pots and love them, i am
mostly using home-made Smart-Pots that i make out
of ordinary landscapers fabric so i can make like 200
pots from a roll that costs me about $6.00.

anyway, here is a link to a thread i think you'll find
interesting if you take the time to read it as it is a
discussion on the benefits of root-pruning.

...and here are a few pics to show a little of what i'm
talking about.

first the PL-L lights, note the shape of the bulb, way
more efficient light distribution (each bulb is 55watts)
note also the ballast mounted outside the grow area.

and here are a couple of 1liter Air-Pots

and here's a couple of my DIY Smart-Pots, lol,
note the roots poking out in the close-up.

so that's my take and i hope i maybe have given you
some ideas to think about and the only other thing i
can think to say is that growing auto-flowers is like
intentionally growing crotch-rot and so i'd not even
consider it.

high man, i'll post up some links for you later today,
some threads where others are using the PL-L's to
flower and veg (i'm only using them to clone and
veg newly rooted clones).

i'll post up some links to suppliers as well plus, if you
read the grow threads i'll link you to you'll find many
links to suppliers as well as other UK growers with
links and locales in your neck of the woods.

these PL-L's are relatively new so not widely used yet
so, at least for now, the best way to get them is just
to have them delivered.

be open now that i know a thing or two, lol.

frankly, the more i learn, the more i realize i need
to learn, lol.

Hi Someotherguy,
well I've been potting up a few cuts in 1Lt bottles cut down. So were see how they go?? Two of the cuts are first time grow from new mums. "white rhino and super skunk" And I've been thinking lights too, "well everything really lol" but to tell the truth i need to get my pc fans working with a some type of thermostat control. If anyone has any ideas i would like to hear them.

high man, one way to 'control' a pc fan is with the voltage
you deliver although i'd not suggest you go over the 12volts
it was designed for.

what i mean to say is that they will run fine with a 9volt
transformer, just slower and quieter.

go back to that list i posted above and go to Scrub's PLL coco
thread and then check out his other threads, he has one that
is the definitive pc fan thread and will have all the pertinent
info you need.
