4" vortex 4 exhaust...hook up carbon canister to it or have a seperate canfan combo..

coming up soon on 1st grow. sorting through final stages of planning. here's my set up:
-30"WX20"DX36"H Rubbermaid cabinet white on white.
-1 150W HPS enclosed ballast hood. 4X20W CFL clipped to scrog framing in mini paint light refectors.
-for odor, 1 vaportech 4000 outside of box next to main exhaust vent AND a carbon canister. (this is kinda a stealth setup so i need quiet and NO smell, i want both carbon and a vaportek 4000).
-main exhaust, 4" vortex, 1 8 or 10" intake hole w/ elbow.

here's the question, should i leave the vortex just an exhaust w/ NO carbon canister attatched, and keep a seperate canfan carbon scrubber combo IN grow box, OR just attatch a carbon canister to outside of box connected to 4" vortex....and 4get a seperate canfan scrubber combo :joint:

I use wal-mart active carbon. I think my entire room smells cleaner. Not a wif of the dank on the other side of the wooden door.

so am i correct in saying to just use the vortex 4" w/ carbon canister connected to it outside of grow box...? vortex installed in wall of box w/ carbon canister connected on outside of box....no need for an additional carbon scrubber then....right...? in addition to that i will have a vaportek 4000 on outside of box near exhaust....sorry if i sound dumb but never grew yet. i have everything on point pretty much ( ithink(, to start, exhaust and ventilation being pretty much last thing to decide. my main goals are quiet and no odor... thanks.

Well yes and no. you see your fan pulls air better than it pushes air so you would be better off with you filter connected to the intake instead of the exhaust. BUT, the filter will still work on the exhaust but I'm sure not as well as it would on the intake. Depending on how big your room is it might not be a factor. If so, I would suggest running you ducking from your box through the wall and into the addict ware your fan and filter can be hanging and not being heard. Your box would be very very quiet.

my box (30"WX20"DX36"H), is in basement. cannot vent really anywhere above. plus it's kinda stealth. i have another question, u say hook up carbon canister to intake...i'm only having intake hole(s), with NO intake fan, just an exhaust fan...to hook up a canister to intake, does it necesarily need an intake fan...?
i plan on having my vortex w/ no ducting, just the vortex installed to top side, venting directly out into laudery room, i will also have a vaportek 4000, either out of box right by exhaust or right in box....thaks 4 helping guys....

I mean putting the filter on the intake of the vortex. But I don't think it will matter with the size of your room I have a 175 cfm 4" vortex and the filter doesn't slow it down much. I would attach the fan to the box then the filter to the fan. You'll have negative pressure and no smell. My two cents

You should be fine pushing into the carbon filter as long as the filter is rated for the same or more CFM as the fan it will be quiet and odorless :rasta:

change of plans. now bought a small size grow tent, and am ditching the 150HPS and CFL, and will get a 250 w/ remote ballast and no CFL....and since i will have no ducts or scrubbers, i think i may now use 120mm 110-120cfm axial 4" fan, maybe 2. the tent has avialble vent ports. for odor i'm using vaportek 4000, a vaportronic and ONA block.
