3LB's Molasses - The Miracle Addative

F

feral

I started the molasses thing myself last week and saw improvement in plants overall health and size in just 48 hours. I was truly suprised to see such a difference but it was there. How much is to much though in frequency though? I was thinking doing a once a week feeding.

is there any way to use it with out a tea. i dont live near anywhere that sells guano or castings, can i just dilute?

Yes!

Compost or soil will do.

The idea is to amplify the bacterial content of whatever source you use (castings/guano/compost/soil). Pick well aerated samples (ie. close to the surface) but still moist. They should have good populations of aerobic (good) bacteria already. Avoid anything that's stagnant since anaerobic (bad) bacteria will dominate. Soil rich in organic content from an old forest or wood is a good bet, and would likely have lots of beneficial fungi as well as bacteria.

Be careful not to overdo the molasses as this will leave you with a population dominated mainly by bacteria, and less of the fungi. Make sure you keep the tea well aerated while brews. Read the "tea making" stickys! How long you brew can be a factor affecting how effective your tea is.

so correct me if i'm wrong, but...

during veg and flowering in soil, mix blackstrap mollasses with water, and feed it once every 2 weeks or so?

Can someone who knows how please list the NPK value of (ex. Grandmas) brand molasses & info on the sodium ?

Bottle Facts:

Serving Size = 1Tbsp / 24 total servings

Potassium / NPK: 110mg / 3%

Calcium : 4%

Iron: 4%

Magnesium: 2%

Sodium: 20mg / 1%

* Is that (sodium chloride "table salt") ? the high osmotic content of salt inhibits bacterial and fungal growth ? Wiki

The more I analyze these 4 brands (Plantation Blackstrap / Rabbit / Grandmas / Wholesome Organic) there important items - K / Cal / Mag / Iron & Sodium, the more I consider dropping the "magic syrup" for other organic options ?

For the reason of un-balances between cal & mag / possible toxic sodium buildup / High levels of Iron & possible overdose "lockout" of 1 major & 2 "semi major" nutes.

Dont get me wrong "it works well" BUT __________________?

Some brands have:

1. Twice the amount of mag to cal = seems wrong

2. More Iron than Potassium = not good

3. Seems like 1-2 Tbsp per gal can be a major nutrient overload.

The OCD kicked in a bit "& or BHO" & im basicly taking about growing control at the highest level.:yummy:

* Having very nice results this time - no lime / no molasses.

Metanaturals calcium for Cal

MaxiCrop kelp for K

POM / Compost / EJ / ETC - ETC..:2cents:

* Earth Juice Catalyst is mellow on the K - ETC - ETC "unlike molasses" & has better soil benefits it would seem.

Good info Tac.

Have a gallon of Grandma's: Less is more

Every time my babies soil gets out of whack it's because I use more than 1 1/2 tbsp per gallon.

Last casualty: Most prized mother, soon after a major trim...could smell the sweetness....saw CT Guy's and Microbeman's post in the back of my mind....warning of too much molasses in the soil...did it anyway....

Prized mother is a little sick now. Close call but recovering.

Staying with one teaspoon, more or less if any, depending on my mix, per gallon.

Every time a pot of oat meal is made (often) I keep some mixed half with RO in the fridge, strain off the goo for my mixes, 1 tbsp+ per gallon. No ill effects, yet.

When tea can't be made: One gallon container (not so messy with a funnel) with a lid and lots and lots and lots of shaking (20 mins+). Think shou-lin thoughts and make it a work out.

Sugar beets are the major source of livestock molasses sold at feed stores. Cane sugar molasses is far, far too expensive to use to feed animals or plants on any kind of large scale, 1 acre or more.

Thanks to my Grandma, I've been using mollasses since the mid 80's. My mom's always used it on potted plants. But, I learned early on not to talk about it. People thought I was out of my mind. I'm still reluctant to mention it.

I use Brer Rabbit, but there IS a little sodium, which I'm not comfortable with. There's a brand of organic mollasses with 0 sodium, but it contains 750 mg of K in every tablespoon. That's a shitload of K. I once had a calcium lockout and blamed it on the mollasses. Don't know for sure, of course.

Hey ghost,

Why are you bumping all these molasses threads? Is it because you read my "Carbs: A Wolf in Sheeps Clothing (warn)" thread? Me thinks its more than a coincidence that I posted to a member yesterday not to use molasses, and that I offered rational and sound reasons.

The 'birds' are wrong, molasses is waaaaaay over rated and over used.

Arrrg! Molasses is NOT a fertilizer or a nutrient! Its food for microbes, THATS ALL!!! If you [sic] "...use molasses as your main nute" I feel sorry for your plants. And honestly I don't believe you, molasses as a fert would not support plant growth (like cannabis), period.

@ all

Please stop the molasses insanity!!

Please read my thread for info on why molasses, and commercial products like "sweet", "bud candy", etc, DO NOT (directly) EFFECT FLAVOR OR AROMA!

If anyone can offer legit sources of info contradicting this post and my thread I would like to read them, thanks. 'Legit' sources of info are journal articles or other legit sources of scholarly info (not from cannabis boards).

Ps. One should source molasses with a brix score over 80. That IMO is a quantifier for 'good' black strap molasses. Over 80 brix is 'best' for use as microbial food (source IIRC: Dr. Elaine Ingham)

Didn't mean to piss you off. Nothing personal intended. All I want is to learn all the info on this I can get, as I'm limited to what ever is in the kitchen as nutes. And have read of many others having success with it. I'm not going to try to make you believe me when I say this is what I use, that doesn't matter. What you think is what you think. I dilute a small amount 1 table spoon in a gallon of water and feed every 2 weeks and have no trouble. What does matter is to find good ingredients to use that I can find in the home. I have read your posts, they're good info, but again I'm not able to obtain store bought nutes, so I'm trying to learn to use what ever I can that I can use around the house. I appreciate your concern, and would ask as you seem knowledgeable about what do. What would you do in my situation??? Sincerely Ghostwolf:joint:
