36 gallon rubber maid hydro system

Hey everyone.

I wanna start a hydro system. Heres what I bought:

36 gallon rubbermaid tub

6 - 4" net pots

6 - Grow blocks(that insallation looking stuff)

1 - Air Pump(will do 30 - 60 gallon bucket)
====Hoses
====Air Stone
====Every little fitting i needed

4 - Baggs of Hydroton Clay Pellets

Will i need a water pump for any reason?

I have no formula to back this up but, you may want another airpump. Massive amounts of oxygen is what you're shooting for. Personally I run a 60 gal pump in a 12 gal res.

Drill baby drill

Drill baby drill

1) If the grow blocks fill the net pots, why the pellets?

2) I've done smaller grow blocks and filled the rest with pellets, to much tipping.

3) Be sure to buy a 3.5" hole saw (or something just less then the circumference of the top of the pots) to make the holes for the lids. Freestyle sucks.

4) Consider buying two tubs. Put one inside the other for stability/strength

5) If tubs are not a dark color, cover the outside to prevent algae

6) If on a basement floor, put something under the tubs to get them off the floor a little

7) Another vote for more air

Good luck!

Yah my tub is huge... but im thinking the whole things gonna be filed to the top with water/nutes.(right?)

More air. Yep, i'll get another ait pump.

Tub is blue, no light can get through.

Why?

I'd have to advise the opposite. The concrete floor acts as a natural heat sync to keep the res temps cool.

Basement is already cool. With winter coming (if he gets below freezing temps where he is), the floor can get too cold. And by raise, I meant like 1/2". I use insulation board.

At least, that's what I does.

Ah, depends on your basement I guess. Yes, take care not to freeze ur nutes! :rasta:

Mine drops low, but the lights keep the chamber warm enough. A piece of insulation board as you said would be good for winter if needs be.

I'm off the floor but, winter temps can leave the cab as low as high 30's at "night". I use an aquarium heater and insulated blankets to maintain 65º.
