a friend lives at 40deg and has been growing an ibl for years with a consistant finish time of mid-late sept. My ? is will this same strain finish sooner, later or at the same time grown at 30 degrees ?

I believe that has more to do with the amount of sunlight and how soon the plants start flowering. To my understand plants will also finish faster under more intense light and more amount of light. 10 degrees shouldnt slow growth that much.

OK, I'll give a example:

Columbus Ohio will represent your friend-Latitude 40.1
New Orleans Louisiana will represent you-Latitude 30.0

We all know that for a non-autoflower strain, harvest times are determined by the length of the day, some plants are triggered earlier than others(depending on their genetics)

Your freinds official length of day at Sept 15th is 12 hours 27 minutes, total length of visable light from twilight to twilight is 13H 22M. Your numbers are 12H 20M of day length, 13H 08M of visable light.
As you can see, your length of day is shorter at his harvest time.

Now lets check the differences earlier in the season, we will jump back to July 15th nearer to the begining of blooming for this strain(I'm estimating?).
Columbus, OH- length of day 14H 44M, length of visable light 15H 48M.
New Orleans, LA- Length of day 13H 53M, length of visable light 14H 47M.

It looks like being further south, your day will be shorter at both ends of season, which to me would mean you would harvest possibly one to three weeks earlier.
