3 selecting questions

planning to cross a little and got some questions about selecting...
(crosses are made for outdoors)

1)will the male that shows sex first be the fastest finishing?
2)will the male with the most sacks transmit the biggest yield to the next generation?
3)will the female showing sex first be the fastest?

Whoops, I've seen it now... it's an outdoor thing. Have to edit the post.... Well I dont think that first is _always_ fastest, but it could be a good guidence to finding a racer :) Maybe you should concider other qualities too ?

now... let's hear it from the elders :)

Take care.

cannabis flowers (male and female) are funny things,, :chin:
pubescence alone does not expain pattern in bloom,,, individual plants develop at different rates, at different stages,, during their growth stages (veg and bloom).

for 'outdoor' programs of breeding, indica breeders look to isolate "outdoor traits", like nice thick leaf-blade, distinct internodes, a low profile and resinous budsites that are resistant to mold,,, look for replication of these traits in male plants,,, the structure and vigor.

sorry this doesn't directly answer your questions,, but as Gypsy suggests,, very little is known about male plants.

"pon ya learn ya grow..."

Edit: early flowering varieties when crossed often take longer to flower in progeny, than the parent plants

I have two male SD/BK 's out side right now. One is super stretchy with no branching that flowered on its own in the middle of june. the second is very bushy and i gave it 36 dark and its been bloomin scince... wondering which one to take pollen from. i like the growth structure of the bushy one but the auto flowering is kind of apealing to me and it has some pretty dense clusters...BEst regards

bushy plant IMO
(auto-flowering strains have too much 'survival' factor)

thanks doc,
you helped me a lot with the time question but what about the yield question?
would you suggest that the quantity of the sacks will be important for next generations yield?

i think i'll isolate the males inside and take some pollen from everyone and watch out which ones look good to me.

then i'll take a q-tip to pollinate my ladies outdoors at the lower branches and see next year what my real first breeding program turns out to be.

to this point ive only selected males by growth, aroma, first to flower(not preflower), last to flower.

right off i cull slow weak lookin plants, then the fastest to show male flowers, and the slowest are culled. whats left i arrange in a line, each time i go in to look at um, i check for the best growth and aromas, and move the better to the front, the not so good to the rear, usually use the best 2 or 3 males, mixed pollen across all the females(minus slow/weak plants) then when smokin the females, i know which batch of seed will most likely throw the best plants.

combinin ablility of the cross determines alot in the outcome. as Doc said weed is a funny/wierd plant. you can try and predict what might take place, but untill the cross is made and the seed grown and tested. its a crap shoot.
