2x2 airpot bed organic living coco

this thing i actually did a year ago but forgot to post it up here haha so i’ll give you a full grow in one post.

“i had these 4 8L airpots i use in one of my 2x2s. i decided i dont want to use them anymore because i wanted to lower my plant count and grow bigger plants instead. i was thinking of buying bigger plastic pots like i have in my 4x4 (74L) but then i was struck by an idea. i tried it and it looks like this might work.

i just screwed together 3 of those 8L airpots sitting in a 60x60 tray. filled it with reused organic mix (all coco), added perlite, basalt, ewc, manure, bat guano, a bit of hydroton and wheat bran and mulched it with hay. i also lined the bottom with stems from old plants just to fill some space.

i think it holds about 55L of medium which is nice enough for big plants and water only grows. i transplanted a clone of caribe i had in my mother tent. its under a 3000K diy cob rig pulling about 130w from the wall.

anyway here it is and lets see how it goes”

it went well :)

bed is still going strong in its 3rd run and this time i have been having this horrible persistent gout attack for the last 3 months which made almost impossible to stand on my feet for longer than 10-15 mins.

after 20days with meds the last 2-3 days its much better but the gals are a little bit neglected this time around. they have been flowering for about 18 days and have been in this bed for way more than a month without any topdressing which was really hard on them so there are some yellowing leaves.

but now that foot is better i’m gonna topdress them in a couple of days and i have been keeping them going with some liquid wormcastings and bat guano when my foot allowed me to do so :)

well either case i cant say i am disappointed so far. actually i’m so impressed with this ease of build and end results, i am gonna convert my other 60x60 to an airpot bed soon too. ofc when my gout lets me lol

oh also this is a personal cross of (dinachem x blue kush) x destroyer. the smell is already incredible especially on the tall one.

gout is horrid, i have relatives and friends that have battled it. I don't know if you are in to tart cherry juice, but i found a brand that i very much like(Indian Summer).

Pretty cool grow bed!
thanks man i tried everything this time but there was no other option than going with medicine sadly. that and drinking 5L of water daily is helping currently. also i am basically vegan now :)

So...what is on the bottom of the grow bed?
the grow bed is sitting directly inside this 60x60 tray.

so felt good yesterday and set up the other bed. used 2 cups of high p bat guano, 1/4th of the medium is chicken and farmyard manure and homemade ewc, also added basalt, lava rocks, lava rock sand, just a couple of handfuls of sand, wheat bran, barley, malted rye, recycled organic coco mix, fresh coco from blocks, old dry cannabis leaves and stems, 2 cups of dry stinging nettles, some clay shards i found at home, micronized zeolite, and negligible amounts of perlite and vermiculite just because i had them. (oh now i wish i also added activated carbon well there is always the next time)

today i planted these 3 gals which have been sitting in my clone tent for so long. 3 malawis from ace seeds. they have been sitting in those pots for so long i even forgot if they were regular or feminized. need to check. well anyway this will be the first time i’ll grow these and i’ll pick the best plant to keep. i know they seem so sad now but they will probably look very different in 2 weeks.

normally i’d say a week but today as i was planting them i noticed the soil got hot. not like a true composting hot but its definitely more toasty at the bottom of the pot so this may make them uncomfortable at the beginning but i am not so worried atm because this happens with my mixes constantly as i also add a lot of fresh organic material like rye, bran, nettles, dry leaves etc and it usually stops in a week or so. also there is a lot of worms from the ewc.

i also seem to have really doubled the medium volume compared to my first attempt. well anyway such a long winded post. here it goes.

also some pics from the other tent. today is day 30 for these 2 (dinachemxblue kush)xdestroyer crosses. not looking perfect but not so terrible either. also some light bleaching on a couple of tops.

and these ones are surprising me as every destroyer cross i made in the past hermed like a mf but these are going all female for now.

i bit the bullet and changed out my diy fixture with another lumatek attis 200w i had in my mother tent. wasnt easy to untie all the colas and re-tie them etc but it looks much better now with very decent coverage.

malawis are looking better and better everyday. i’m for the first time in years fighting off a gnat infestation in this tent and i am 100% sure its because of peat. i stored the wet pasteurized hay i use as mulch in a closed container with very old peat moss and i think somehow that moisture made the dormant eggs on peat crack and the larvae got transfered into the tent on the hay. how can gnat eggs can stay alive for 5 years beats me though :)

so for now i am letting it dry out and no mulch for now. also noticed increasing hypoaspis population so i am sure given enough time they will handle those gnats. not worried so much :)

thats sad but it was a very user un-friendly site for sure haha
Up until the photo upload issue I found it pretty easy to navigate. It just took some time getting used to their format. This site had a similar issue with their photo uploading. But, it was fixed within a few months from what I understand. GC has been over a year now with the same issue.

I keep a bookmark to my journal on the sites I use on my computer. When the page changes I replace the bookmark. On GC you could just click on your avatar to access your journal, threads or last places visited. If you need help you could always ask an Old School member over there or a Mentor here on ICMAG.

yeah i clicked bro it showed me no content thats how i do it on every site i use but on gc it just showed me an empty page. i dont know not a fan of their current layout. not saying strictly this format all forums use is the best but its the most user friendly. there is room for improvement on gc on that end.

They seem to be making some changes over on GC so things are not always working as they used to. When you click on your avatar you'll see "Profile page" under it a little to the right. Click on that and it opens up your profile page where you can access anything you want. Opening the "More" tab from your profile page will drop down a menu with your Journal, Areas, Media and Albums.

it would be really helpful if the site just had a your threads tab with every thread you posted under it lol

I checked your thread out at GC. You do not have it posted in a Journals thread. You need to have it moved by Chunk to the Organic grow journals or the Indoor grow journals. You started your post in the growing marijuana indoors section. That is where folks ask questions about indoor growing. You can ask to have it moved in your post. Just @chunk and he will see the message and move it for you.
