2x 400w or 1x600w?

Hi fellow ICmaggers, I'm kinda new to the indoor growing scene (as well as to the forums) and I'm planning my first indoor grow. I already have all the seeds, (gonna be growing a few of each of the following: Kali Most, Menage a trois, Arjan's Haze *1(got it for free), and Super silver haze x grapefruit widow(got it free as well). I have a space of about 1.5-2 m2(13-18 sq ft) available, and now I'm asking myself and you the question if I should get a 600w light and maybe buy a second one after the first grow, or go with 2 400w lamps. What do you think?

Nice rule of 'thump' is 600 W per 1 m square or 400 W per 80 x 80 cm.

2 m2 --> 2 x 600 W
1.5 m2 --> 2 x 400 W

That's true Wolvern, but a 600w has almost the same output as 2 400's, which is the the reason why I'm hesitating about this

I think I'll go with the 600w and after I make some money with the harvest, I'll add a second 600w. ATM I don't have enough money for 2 600w's

Sounds fine. Just don't try to use single 600 W for the whole space, better partition off half of your space. Later, when you get another light, expand your grow.

Two 400's can really pull in a small space like that. If it's 2-400's vs 1-600, I'd go with the 400's. Even though the 600 has as much juice as the two 400's, I like the idea of spreading out the footprint a little more with multiple bulbs.

Oh, sorry, no it's 1x1.5(not exactly, could vary a bit)

Some of this depends on your style of growing. If tree style the 600's will penetrate deeper. If say a sog/scrop or LST then the 400's will work great. But the bigger the light, the better the buds.

Two 400w CMH, ceramic metal halide, and run them for veg and flower, check out the CMH thread

your style of growing should determine the size of your bulb, i use 400s and only veg for 1-2 week max

I'll grow tree style, maybe a bit of LST, but in the end it's gonna be tree style. I guess I'm gonna go with a 600w HPS(I'd like to use a CMH but 1. they are expensive as shit and 2. I can't get them anywhere since I'm swiss)

Honestly, even though a 600 might penetrate deeper where it's hung, it's not going to penetrate better than two 400's would spread across that space. The sides away from the bulb will get no benefit of that penetration because of their initial distance from the bulb. That's why I say two 400's. All your intensity is in the center w/ a 600. So, although it may reach deeper in the center, it won't on the outsides of the garden. This logic has done me very well in a 3x5 closet with 2-400's.

id go 2 400 cmh over 1 600 hps or even 2 400 standard hps..
CMH last longer and are cheaper..and Full SPD wich is best for plants
