2k Watt Grow-Constructive Criticism Please

G

Guest

Hello-
New Member, 1st grow...looking to learn lots on here as you guys are a wealth of info. This is a CA med grow attempt. The buds are a little small, but I'm sure it's due to lower temps...hopefully the buds will make it up in potency (due to colder temps).

Strains are beginner strains (jack flash and White Widow)
Fox Farm/Perlite Mix
2-1k watt sun systems
1 fan
Mylar around the perimiter
Organic Nutes, Veg, and Bloom
Clones transplanted Dec. 6th-Vegged for about 12 days and these pix are about 4 weeks into flowering. I'm hoping that within these last 3-4 weeks the buds willl swell much larger! The temps have maintained around 60 deg f., but dipping as low as 50 deg f. a couple times (I know...if there's a next time the temps will be a little warmer)

Thanks for any constructive criticism.

Sorry lights are HPS, not MH.
Also,
When I planted these, I didn't fill the pots much more than 5/8 to 3/4 full. I think next time they will be filled at least 7/8 of the pot size with the fox farm and perlite. Next time I'm going to try adding worm castings as well.

One more thing...
I've been using Arrowhead mountain spring water from the grocery store. Is this ok or should I be using a distilled water...I figured the distilled water would lack important minerals? Any help on this topic would be appreciated as well.
Thanks again

Distilled water would be better then mountian spring. the minerals in mountain spring can cause lock out of nutes. or but i am not sure at to what level of this will happen.

your plants do look nice though. a little hard to see with the mylar but nice looking.

Looking good..

Looking good..

You're plants look healthy all in all..I would not use distilled water anytime other than sprouting seeds.During flowering plant need P.k,cal/mag,micro's.Distilled water has very little of anything in it..Most bottled water or spring water don't usually have enough ppm's to do much damage..unless you're running hydroponically..soil is pretty forgiving. The best way to boost you're bud production is container size during veg..try multple transplants during this time..and then the final transplant into the largest container before the Kick. The best and cheapest addative to help you're buds is Molasses..When I add it to my watering,it's usually 1tbls/gal.Also,during any transplant, mix 1tablespoon vit.B-1 to 1gal.water and mist the rootball, new soil, and water in Well with this mixture..you will have 'no' problems what so ever.I always incorporate about 2cups of EWC to every gal of soil mix and so do my friends..great stuff!! Good luck..Ps..keep those temps 74-76 degrees around the clock..this will keep plants from stretching and stressing..haha!!!

OK.
P. 290 in Jorge Cervantes' book "Marijuana Horticulture" it showed that about adding sugar, but had no reference to amount (of molasses). I'm on my way to the grocery store now and will add 1Tbs/Gallon from here on out. What about when I'm flushing the plants (just water...no nutes...can I keep adding molasses)??

hey b-legit, welcome to the forums!
your temps are way way too low.... 60 with the lights on is even low... 50 is suuuuuper cold!!! Do you have your lights aircooled? If you do, you might want to lower the fan speed so it gives off a little more heat, or just stick a heater in the room... youve gotta get that temp up to atleast 70 during the day and 60 at night.... they wont develop their buds at night if its too cold.
also, i know your looking to boost your yield.... right now is the perfect time to hit them with PK 13-14, beastie bloomz or hammer head. High p ferts will let them pack on some weight... even if it only adds 5 or 10% weight, which i feel is minimum, your still looking at way way more bud in your jars. Carbo load is also a good product to look into.
one more thing, how far are your lights way from the plants? this may affect your bud size, even tho your using quite a bit of light.
and btw, CA growers are only allowed to have 6 mature plants.... just in case you didnt know...

good luck man!!!!

oh yeah, and about that water, invest in or find some 5 gallon water jugs (the ones they deliver to homes), and start filling them at a super market.... its WAY cheaper and the water is more than fine for soil growing.

After one molasses feeding...I think we're going on week 5 or about 37ish days of flowering...
SR-
Thanks for the advice. The lights are about 3 or so feet from the tops. This weekend when I go to the hydro store I'll be sure and pick up some PK 13-14.

sweet plants man! there definately going to pack on the weight in the last weeks dont worry.

pk 13-14 is definately the stuff to fatten up your buds at this time. since your in soil you could use bat guano instead if you dont want to use chemicals on your plants. i use Budswell 0-7-0 dry bat guano, the also have .01-1-01 liquid Budswell thats the same thing but i havnt tryed it yet. organic buds mmmm....

the colder temps are delaying growth so you may have to let them go an extra week or 2 , its gonna take a little longer for em to fatten up. 70 or 80 is a better temp. how are you keeping it that cool with 2k watt light is confusing me.

hell tap water is fine if you let it sit 24 hr. dont waste your money on bottled water.

Well nice to see another new grower, I am on my second indoor, and I am also starting a 2k grow. My last was 600 watt hps,, and I didn't do to bad. But I live in the mountains and my temps are cold here too. I had to have a heater going iin the dark hours, and my temps were still 55-65 when I checked them in the morning. I ran the lights at night. Heater also brought RH down. it was 75% at first without heater, and I put an oil filled heater in there and ran on the other 12 hours and it did the trick and brought the RH down to 55-60.
Your plants look awesome though, keep us posted on the progress, I will be posting my new grow pics in a couple days. they are gonna veg for a couple more days. I have 12 Romulans from seeds I have to separate too plus the others are AK=47 clones.
Good Luck with those girls, get em fat.

temps are way way to low, its causing slow growth and will hurt your yeild. move the lights closer if you can. other than that it looks good i mean you rbuds that is. youll just get better results with higher temps.

Thank you to all who have given input! I've read and re-read every post taking in the info/advices.

OK,
I've decided to move the plants to a warmer location (despite only 2-3 more weeks).
Will a 10-20 degree jump in temps shock or hurt the plants in any way?

I bought my 60-100x microscope a few days back and all trich's are clear.

I'll be updating the pics every third day or so.

Questions:
1. When should I begin to flush and how long do I flush for?
2. Can I continue to use molasses when flushing? I've heard that it makes the smoke a strong full bodied afghani like smoke? If that's the case or if anyone can vouch for that I think I'm going to back off the molasses as I prefer the softer smoke (I know...I'm a pussy but since I stopped smoking cigarettes I don't really like the heavy smokes)...

Thanks-
B

if you have only 2 or 3 more weeks i say either get a heater in the room or just wait for the next grow. chock it up to a learning experience. your buds still look good just that they could be better in a warmer climate. thats the nature of growing you make mistakes and with each grow get better and better and get more and more out of your plants.

Pics of week 6...buds are swelling nicely. Temp is 70-75. Humidity right around 45-50%...holding.
Probably feed two more times, then flush twice (all spaced 3-4 days apart) and then dark for 72 hrs...then choppity chop!

Woops here are the pics! I guess that's why they call them white widow (sorry for the poor clarity I've got to get another camera...doesn't look too bad when you're high tho...kinda weird)??
Thanks for all your help ic members!
