hey guys, I'm new to icmag and ive been reading lots of posts and it seem like most of you know your stuff. Now i have this 250w Sunlight hps and its pretty big so i was wondering if a 2.5' x 1.5' x 3' is to small(i think it is, but would be perfect) and if it is whats the smallest tent i can buy for, also i have a 2 gallon pot that is about 1' tall and i was thinking about growing 2 plants max.

All advice would be helpful.

I think a grow that small might qualify as a Micro Grow*. You might get a better response in that subforum.

*no negative connotation intended.

Personally, I think that you'll want to go a bit taller. 3' tall ain't much when the pot is a foot tall, the reflector about another foot, and should be 8-14" above the plants.

No room for the plants.

Much better option.

My first "room" was a 2x2 closet w/ a 250 hps. Used to cram 16 clones in there, and do pretty well.

I suggest ya get a plan in place for ventilation/odor control before ya get the tent. Also. take a look at some of the cabnet grows here. Ya just may rethink that tent purchase.

Here is a "how to" on making your own filter. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=29402 The one I made in that thread was used with a 6" vortex inline cooling/filtering 15 sq ft lit by 800 watts hps. Worked like a champ. Reason I point that out is 'cause ya can "build to fit" with a little prior planning.

I have an old cabnet that I clone and pre-veg in. It's got plenty of room to toss in a 250w, 4" vortex, and carbon filter. Matter of fact I am wanting to do just that this spring for a breeding project. Planning on sending the exhaust up my chimney.

I know that a lot of folks get good results out of those tents, but I ain't a real big fan of them. Bought one last year. Got it in the basement, took it out of the box, inspected and put back in the box in 'bout 15 min. Stuck the box in the corner and headed out to home depot for 2x3s, "white board" paneling, and a couple boxes of screws.

Much happier.

Ya know that home depot sells brand new cabnets? Some assembly required.

So im going with the above suggestion ( 48"x24"x60" ). Now i need help with picking a quiet and affective inline fan and a good carbon filter to keep most of the smell from coming out. Brand, Size, etc..

This is my thought of the layout im gonna have but still have some questions?

Will is be to hot in there with the 250w hps not having a direct duct with fan hookup to it?

Will having the carbon filter on the floor like that keep the smell from coming out or is it better to hang it up?

From what i have learnt i would rather put the fan blowing air on the plants instead of the light, with your setup you would be better off using only the carbon filter for extraction as you have a open hood. You should place your carbon filter at the top no doubt.

You will have to refer to the Venting 101 Sticky - Here for your extraction purposes to calculate what inline fan you will need and what carbon filter to match.

If you have a inline fan with speed settings you could use them to increase air change in your room, remember it comes down to the air in the room aswell. If its hot ull need to put it on a higher speed if colder on lower speed. People suggest changing the air in the cab every 1-5 minutes.

As we speak im struggling myself with calculating what inline fan i need to go with, i need to work out say if i use a inline fan and it has 3 speed settings & the lowest speed changes my air every 5 mins in winter & on highest it changes it every 3 mins to use it in summer because hotter air will need to be exhausted out more often. Trying to be as efficient as possible is my goal & so is dense bud.

Hope that helped !
