240 Spliter Question - Electrical Help

I am trying to run 2 - 1000 watt Lumatec Ballast on the houses 240 line. Has anyone had experince doing this? I do have an electrican that is helping me just trying to get some ideas.

He tried rigging up a Dryer cord to a homemade box with an outlet for the 240 Dryer and both smaller 240 Ballast plugs. - The amp rating on one of the plugs ended up only being 124 so we are starting over.

I see people have made sub pannels, would this be the best option? SAFETY FIRST.. Ideas, thoughts suggestions?

u could utilize the space in the panel where the dryer line is ran currently (if you have no intention of using your dryer.. and run a new line using 8-3 back to either a subpanel, or a junction box big enough to make all the connections.. connect 10-2 to each phase (one 10-2 for black and neutral/ground, and one 10-2 for red and neutral and ground) then drop down into some double pole double throw intermatic timers (cat# T103) with each of the 10-2 's going to an individual timer.. then u can simply install the proper recpts to accommodate your ballast.. my opinion anyway :-0
