22 day old clone from preflowering mother trouble

I took a clone from a outdoor plant just after it showed preflowers, 22 days ago. Life has not been good to this cutting. I am posting some pics to show her current condition, in my opinion, poor, but not critical or life threatening. There is a small inset showing her approximate color one week prior.


That same day, I screwed up the location of the airstones and she ended up getting a slightly dehydrated stem . I also believe that the water loss to her smaller fan leaf lead to its current state. Her vigor decreased a fair amount the first day, but since then she has increased her vigor somewhat, but has been stealing a lot of energy from the larger fan leaf. I believe that the growth tip has increased in size, but it too is looking a little nitrogen deprived. I don't yet see any pre-root growths on the stem, which by the way is about 3/4" smaller than I usually take.


Her current environment is in a cheapo aero cloner under ~1300lumens, F17T8. Her ambient temperatures are ~75-78*F, her water temperature is ~75-78*F. I have her on 18/6 lighting. water is tap, don't currently know the ppm/pH.


Should I do anything to her or just wait. Foliar Spray, adjust temps, go with distilled water? I would like to keep this clone alive for sentimental reasons .

guess there's notthing you can do then give her the best inviroment possible and wait it of...i'd say you got 50/50% chance.. if the stem is still green and the tip is still alive
maybe add some sort of rootstimulant...

The stem has green to all but the very tip (1/4mm). I will see if i can get a little rooting stimulant and give her a bit of that. Thanks for the advice. I will update on the outcome.

I've done some CPR on clones like this.... it may require emergency surgery! That stem tip looks like its sealed off from the dryness, just take your scalpel and trim off the bottom at a 45 degree angle... This should increase water uptake through the stem and may just save her.

I think you should remove both of those leaves as well... the chlorosed one and the shrived dry one. You might also try a very light misting.

This type of procedure has risks, benefits, and potential complications. Chances of survival are approximately 50%.

Despite the little cuttings best efforts, I had to put her out of her misery. She finally fell to the monster pythium. I am debating taking another cutting or two from the mother plant which is about 1 month into flowering, or trying to re-veg the mother after fall harvest. The biggest drawback I see from this is that the mother is an outdoor plant, and would most likely need quarantining before I dared bring her into the garden. Any thoughts on this will be received with an open ear.

I took a cutting from the same flowering mother last week and have noticed the formation of pre-root bumps .
I will transplant with the incidence of lateral root development. I have Black Gold Planting Mix I intend to thin this to about 70%/volume with an expanded shale product. Pics when i find my camera charger.

As you can see this clone is in much better shape and has extensive pre-root development. I expect lateral root development very shortly. I usually take cutting with less vegetation, but my choices were limited as the mother was in flowering. I was able to get two nodes in the moist environment of the bubble cloner, and one node is submerged.
