Whatsup good people, bad people. aliens. I'm starting this thread to document my 2016 backyardigans grow along and also because there was a contest i'm hoping you don't need a plant that can be seen from space to win it. i can't allow my plants to even be seen from next door.

hmmm what to talk about now...

i'm growing cheap and free. the soil mix is basically manure and topsoil or some mushroom compost, or some peat, or a little bit of coco or a mix of all the above. i'm just trying to get a texture that will support roots, allow good air and water exchange, and allow free movement of the roots. i also used some perlite and some lava rocks, some sand from the ground and whatever rocks and pebbles were around.

cheap and freeasy. for plant food i've got whatever is naturally present in the soil, along with some garden lime...or lime...i think maybe it's hydrated...i bought a huge 50lb bag of lime from home depot like 5 years ago. says sunniland on it. whatever i got that, i also use epsom salts, and fish emulsion, i have a bottle of gh Micro left over, and i also bought this 10-10-5 fertilizer with micros and chelates or something. it sounded good so i bought it. "grow and gain"

what else...i'm using whatever containers i can find but mostly between 3-5 gallon pots or bags. i also have a couple...well those aren't probably not gonna be talked about in this thread but i have some smaller plants in smaller containers scattered around too.

oh the strains you guys want to hear about the strains...

no you don't cuz it's nothing you've ever heard of, no rappers ever rapped about it and it's not from your family who likes kookies.

6 months later...

so here we are it's august and things are finally starting to bloom or continuing to bloom in the case of those plants that were already flowering.

rgm pheno#2 short and fast to start flowering.

rgm pheno#1 very tall not very branchy at all looks like the nodes might be starting to alternate. this one didn't get the memo on my stealth imperative. not only is is almost about to leave my yard, the stem rub is also downright malicious. so i had to teach it a lesson. but it didn't learn the lesson i don't think cuz it's still creeping back up. anyway...i've never grown it out all the way but the grow i got the clones from had next to 0 ventilation and it didn't stink in there...so fingers crossed...

myster-z - random seed that came up from the dead. no clue what it is but the smells make me think it's either whiteberrykushxmishaf3 or 98bubbakushxmishaf3
very fruity and light scented but also an earthy back.

sashaf3 pheno #alpha. the smells just started but i'm smelling blueberries funk so i'm excited about that.

i've also got a 98bubba, and another gg#4 bx out there and some small plants that aren't that concerning.

p98bk on another day probably weeks after the first pic. i'm thinking this was a bad choice for outdoors as it really really reeks in flower. like reek city. smells like sticky tarry funky something smelly. oh...and also like weed. like pine cones weed and coffee...really bad.

so i'm going to be outside everyday meditating with this one and the second i can smell it more than 5 feet away i'm gonna have to axe it. never really intended it to be part of my outdro. i had the unrooted cut after leaving my last spot and i just threw it out there with no intention of it even living(february). grows sooooo slow. anyway somehow it rooted, started to flower, revegged, started to preflower and veg a little bit and finally it's flowering again... i attempted like 10 failed clones so it's pretty bushy compared to normal.

you might notice all my plants look like they're seeded ...it's because most of them are. i have my prize males on the side of my house and the wind is helping me make an adventure mix 2016.

alright there's been a lot of changes since last update. i got some proper flowering nutes...did i say that part already?

i got some tomato food dry granules. jobes organics 2-7-4 i think made of bone , feather and other "meals" so not gonna be water soluble. in the near term i also bought some espoma bloom liquid ferts. "that new shit" 1-3-1 also organic. smells like fabric softener for some reason? maybe to cover up natural smells of fish and shit? anyway i dunno, somewhere between adding 2 different kinds of nutes, and spraying my plants with a foliar on a bright sunny day. i fuked a lot of my fan leaves. but whatever. they might not be pretty, but it's all good i assure you. there was way too many leaves on all my plants, seriously they been sitting outside since february most of em. been preflower, veg, reveg, now back to preflower and full flower. all these leaves dropping off from the nuteburn/lockout and the bad foliar...pretty much just saved me a lot of hassle with the pruning. i just pluck the yellowing leaves and or shake the plants. easy peezy lemon squeezy.

so anyway everything is still growing. dunno how well really since this is practically my first time outdoors but i'm getting it. everything is alive and still growing so still winning.

RGM#1 largest thing i got out here in a 5 gallon i had to bury because almost 7 feet tall now. also most sativa of plants. supercropping turned this into a monster. the branch i broke made 0 difference. the broken stalk is still out there, exposed dead and gray (hope it doesn't mold) but the skin just repaired itself around the stalk and kept going. i guess they're like people, break the bone but the blood still flows through the tissues.

spidermites love this more than anything else in my garden.

p98bk all fucked up looking. burns from the foliar. this one didn't get the burn/lockout from the nutes like most of the other plants. very hardy one. all seeded up, may or may not produce more flowers. i might just be smoking seeds this harvest.

SashaF3#alpha was hardest hit with the lockout. this strain always been a lighter feeder. but we're bouncing back.

Nah you just can't or don't wish to read and comprehend the word i write in plain english above.

Anyway this was practically my first grow outside and there were so many factors impeding my progress i'm surprised i harvested anything. anyway i learned lessons and am applying them to my continued outdoor growing ventures.

I only started this thread for the outdoor grow contest which i have not even been paying attention to and am not even sure of the criteria except show your outdoor grow? i assume foothill farming will win because he has some really large plants in big pots which is guess people value the most. anyway i can't keep up with updating so many different threads.

lets see... since i last updated there was a hurricane named hermoine that flooded my garden for like a week straight, then a magical tropical storm that formed over land (not making this shit up google is your friend), then luckily i harvested my mold infested bug ridden seeds and bud crops before 2 more hurricanes came(nicole on the way still) through.

by the time the first hurricane was done (hermoine) pretty much all my outdoor was done except the RGM#1 and my SashaF3#1. whatever didn't get moldy because i underestimated this florida humidity and didn't prune well enough or remove dry/dead seeds/organic matter, was all locked out and fucked up after all the rains and started to just die from hunger and never recovered.

the RGM was under attack from caterpillars but i thought they just were eating some leaves... no big deal LOL first time outdoor huge lesson learned...if you don't know they lay their eggs inside the buds and they hatch and eat their way out from the inside out...ewww so gross

and then there's the shit little green/brown whatever color they were eating pellet that dry and shrivel up to look like little black/brown lincoln logs. all in the buds when i harvested. and i found some live ones still in there eating away my hopes and dreams and the tiny baby ones just emerging from the bud. ewww almost threw up. most of that went straight to the trash. i was thinking...it's just my buds they chewed up and pooped out right? they're simple creatures, it's not like my shit...essentially they're just like organic grinders making it easier for me to smoke this...nope nope nope nope...into the trash lol...

i jumped and threw the bud i was trimming across the room the first time i encountered one. lol thought it was a leaf stem that just started walking away like nooo...don't cut me...#highshit

The Sasha was looking good but couldn't dry out and recover from all the rain in that plastic bag i guess. the roots looked terrible when i exhumed her. she got seeded up as soon as she started flowering like week 2 since this is one of the last 2 seeds ever and i needed to keep the genes (dream) alive. she was full of seeds by the time the rain came and they started sprouting. like 50% of all the seeds i pulled out of the dry plant (and boy were there a lot of em) were just empty husks. the ants were on here all the time mining the nutrient rich seed emryos i guess, thankfully did not bring aphids with them. there were some spidermites that got really terrible near the end, but the biggest culprits were the snails and slugs. i didn't recognize the damage till it was too late. i thought it was caterpillars like the RGM right next to her, but i never saw any on her ever...because they were actually snails and banana slugs which hide during the day lol.

finally found them when i decided to go out in the rain and examine plants the week before i chopped... i think it was raining because magic tropical storm lol...

but it wasn't all bugs and rains i learned some valuable lessons about growing outdoors in florida and what types of strains work best. no indica types during summer lol all of those rotted and molded so bad. what strains i have that are resistant to pests and how much. spidermites and aphids seem to be my biggests pest overall, and moths/caterpillars during flowering. i will have to bite the bullet and invest in some bti again for these caterpillarc*nts, was trying to keep it all natural. my soap/oil/garlic/pepper/essentials spray is working really well against the other stuff like the mites and aphids and gnats. i'm just lazy and don't keep up with it like i should. finally working my way through this soil i find down here which in itself is a challenge. lots of sand in everything. poor drainage and nutrient holding capability. found some local soil (literally went to a filed with lots of shit growing in it and examined the soil) and brought home a 5 gallon bucket of it of play around in.
very silty and fast draining. i've since mixed up all the used soil from all my containers and the soil from the field and some garden soil i've been conditioning all summer letting grow over with ground cover and keeping moist, some worms i found here and there in my pots, etc. threw it all into a big bin and let it cook for some time and have been using it and learning it in my veg cab and have the hang of how often to water and feed now. gotta stick with the chemicals for now since it doesn't seem to hold enough organic nutrients in it yet. but maybe once i reuse it a couple times and ammend it some more i can go to no till or close to it.

but it's coming together.

not much to look at, the harvest...what was left anyway was meager at best. the rgm got a nice flavor and smell on em, but the buds didn't fill in very well, maybe i chopped early...too early.. but it was a race against caterpillars...plus this thing reeks and i don't exactly live in a place where weed is legal. didn't smell like weed much to the untrained nose. the predominant smell is some some sort of harsh stenchy smell like burning ...something and old rotting leaves...
dry smell is like moth balls/menthol/eucalyptus vicks vaporub. pretty much vicks vaporub in an old log? best i can explain. taste is menthol/minty/mossy

the Sasha on the other hand did not even reach her full potential. i was so awed by finally having some pink pistils plant i didn't recognize she was locked out. like seriously. i thought she would be fine after the rains but seems too wet was the case. buds were nothings full of seeds. by the time you pluck all the seeds out theres just some fluff and stem left. the smell is like....green apple mixed with...ammonia/mr.clean? strong industrial cleaner. but not like lemons or pinesol, just the tangy sharp smell. it's a weird combination for sure. there's a peppery hint in the background too. when i crack the jar i often sneeze several times. can't really speak on the taste though...it's very...smooth? light? i dunno not really anything i'm tasting. i was thinking maybe trash pheno. the high is...i dunno it seems like maybe i took it too early it's a very exciting high, very clear, the only think i can notice in it is a strong nervousness comes over me and i feel queasy and my stomach gets tight and knotted like i need food or i am very anxious.

i'll have to run her again to determine whether or not trash pheno or badly grown. the RGM def a keeper but i can't grow her in the summer or near people. Sasha was the #QUIET no smell almost in flower but once dry. puke what is that smell?
