200w CFL ?

Does anybody know if a 200w CFL would be good for flowering? This is my plan, I have 4 , 48", 40w cool whites, 2 bulbs in each fixture, and a 200w CFL light in the middle of the grow, I just moved to 12/12 four days ago, everything looks good, looks like there growing a little faster and drinking more water. I would appriciate the comments, Thanks,

I would say yes if the finished plants are no taller than 18 inches,24 tops. You just wont get the penetration although you can make up for it a bit by keeping the lamp close to the tops. You wouldnt want to flower 3 or 4 ft plants with flo lights even high wattage flo's

I don't know if it's going to be good or not, as I'm currently in the midst of my first grow, but due to space and other limitations, I intend to flower under 2 125watt cfls. From all the reading I've done, the only thing I can say is that you should go for the 2700K warm bulb if you can. The increased red spectrum is good for the flowering phase. I'll definitely be checking back to see what people with more experience think about using CFL in general. I would expect we will get much lower yields than with hps, but hopefully quality will still be nice and high. Good luck! And post some pics

I have one of the 125 watt hydrofarm fixtures when the lamp broke I just never replaced it.Very cool burning fixture you can get the lamp right on the tops.

I forgot to say that the room is 4ft x 4ft, the 48's are in the corners in the vertical position, this my first grow, have ten plants that are 12" tall right now, some are smaller around ten inches, and I still dont have permission to post attachments, But thaths for the imput, I can see that one hand washes the other around here, thats a good thing, thanks again

crazyhorse ... have you tried loading the pics into your gallery and then putting them into your thread from there ? thats how i do it .
your grow box sounds a bit large for the wattage you are running . the rule of thumb is 50w per sq. ft. you have way less than that. also, when you say 200w cfl, are you using the higher rating, as used by the manufacturer ? i.e. .."this bulb gives the eqiuvalent to 200w incandescent." normal procedure is to use the lower rating ... i'm thinking yours is around 47w (just a guess) . your plants sound tall but i am guessing that they are stretching for light . a pic would be great .

to stoned to think of subject

to stoned to think of subject

im running a similar situation but a little more fine tuned.

i have a (approximatly) 5WX2TallX2Deep (whats the proper way to site dimensionS? wXlXh?)

this is the shape of the cab but i since lined it with mylar and divided it in half with a plywood divider. after that was done i hung those 2 shoplites parralel with the envirolite and fitted them with red spectrum bulbs. so in total im running 205W over 2X1.5 for a total of 3 sq/ft and approximatly 66.3W per foot. I have been achieving pretty good results so far. its my first grow but i attribute the dence crystally buds mostly to how close i get the majority of thsoe bud tips to any of the bulbs.

floros take a lot of heat from hps growers because they dont produce hardly any lumens at a distance over 5-6" but they are much more effcient at a shorter distance like 1-2"s. basically what im saying is hang those 4ft'rs from the ceiling and get them close together, shrik the size of your grow space so the buds are closer to the lights and getting all the measly lumens floro's put out. if its not to late train your plants by tieing them down and exposing more bud sites (where the branches and leaves meet the stem) this way you can get the lights lowers and closer to more bud sites...

floros are excellent for learning they dont produce alot of heat and are cheap and easy to use. get some good nutes and the lights close to the growth tips and see how she goes

good luck

i would say 4-5 inches for 42watts and for the 27s id say 1-2 inches is good. i burned mine when my 42s were too close.
