2 400ws or 1 1000w?

Whats up everybody?

I have a fairly new growroom that I'm looking to upgrade very soon. My options are A: add another 400w light into the room or B: switch out the current 400 for a 1k. The room is roughly 4'x5'x6' (height is not an issue). There are 6 plants in there right now, but I'm looking to double this figure.

Startup costs aren't really an issue.
What Im trying to find out is: Which setup would be more cost efficient in the long run, which setup would provide the best growth for the most amount of plants, and which would overall be a wiser decision.

Keep it real.

600's actualy provide more lumins then a 1k....
although penetration isnt as good, SOG'ing would be perfect for multiple lights..
i think 600's are better then 400's because 2 digi 6's take same amps as magnetic 1k........
its up to you though, if u want tall, probably untoped trees, go with the 1k itll provide more penetration.
if you want to sog/lst/top then id go with the 400's or 600's...
these are just best useage senarios....either way would work...
go with digis to save electricity. also air-cooled hood allow the light to be closer to the plants. (my daystarAC w/400 is about 6-8 inches away. same as my 600's)
good luck happy growing.

Digital Hippy - I think you meant to say that a 600 delivers more lumens per watt than a 1000, a 1000 has considerably more lumens than a 600.

Dirty - go with the 1000, it will be cheaper equipment wise than 2 400 and will be a cleaner setup

im currently runnin two 400s in a 3'x5' area of a 5x5 closet. im gettin decent results but who doesnt want better eh? well i bought a light meter the other day and i happen to have a 1k ballast here somewhere, when i get a chance i plan to buy a bulb for the 1k and do a comparison. since i run sog style, i have shorter plants with mostly main colas and havin a rectangle space imo the 400s will do better. i havent tried it yet so please no flamming me but i will say if you use the whole closet the 1k would probably be better.

The style of growing Im going for is getting the plants nice and big, so I'm gonna go for the 1k.
Thanks for the input and happy growing. :headbange

I have two 400HPS I used in my 3x5 closet with great results. For small areas, or even large areas I would assume that it's better to have more small lights than just one big one because it allows you to spread out the footprint and still get good wattage per square foot. With the two 400's in a 3x5 area you have 50wpsf. This way you don't have all the intensity in the center of your area, it's a little more spread out than it would be with just one light.

In the end, there are a BILLION ways you can configure stuff, and it just boils down to a personal choice.

Two 400w Phillips CMH. Check out my gallery. That is two 400w CMH in 20" x 40" X 5ft. Most energy you can apply when compared to a 600w most likely 1000w when you figure light spread and all with the two bulbs and how close you can get them two the canopy. Just my honest observation.

2 400 Watt CMH's would Do a better Job than a 1kw, even if u consider "lumen's" your still dealing with Inverse Square law of light meaning at the perimeter its Almost Useless whereases Multi lights would provide more EVEN LIGHT SPREAD> thus being more efficient in all aspects (considering a better yield to)
