This is my first grow and I have a few questions. The plants are 30 days old today and are between 9 and 12 inches tall. 2 of the 3 are fairley bushy, but the third is really thin. I screwed up from the beginning by using mg garden soil with time release nutes, and my wife got me mg all purpose plant food. I am using a 6 buld t5 fixture I got from work. My questions are they all look ok but 2 plants the bottom leaves are turning yellow and dying off. I did use a tiny of the mg plant food but only one time. I have a rainsoft system in my house so I have been using my house water. I finally got a cheap ph tester from a pet store and it says my ph of the water is 7.5. I have pics but I am not sure how to post them, I have them in my gallery though.

they are lookintg pretty good man, it just looks like it may be a little bit of a PH lock out or a little bit of a nute burn...but nothin major yet..
What i would do is get some PH up and PH Down from hydro store and flush out ur plants and then always adjust ur water or nute solution you give them to 6.5 with the ph up and down....

If I were you I'd throw them to 12/12 NOW! Expect to lose some lower leaves as the plants stretch toward the lights. You will probably find that you can use more lights to improve available lumens. I grew under Power Groove Flourescents at one time and had an outstanding harvest I think they were 150 W each. All the growth was toward the top of the plants. Good luck!

Someone said I can use white viniger to adjust down, and baking soda to adjust up. I will post some pics of I took today later. Also should I even be ginving nutes since the soil has time release in it?

No additional nutes are needed with time release. You'll OD the plants and burn them up. You've got to remember these things are weeds abd used to struggling for a living. Too many people kill their plants with good intentions. Let them beg you for water. Some grows I use no nutes whatsoever and I still manage to get commercially acceptable weed and maintain long term buzzes! :rasta:

Hey Cran,

I`ve just started my first grow and I am 4 and a half weeks into flowering, I switched them to 12/12 when they were between 10 + 14 inches high.

I got 2of3 females and discarded the male straight away, week 3 of 12/12 one leaf on each plant went light green then yellow.

I consulted other growers on this site and they said dont worry if its just one, let it go yellow then remove it:kos:

I did so and this week three more started to go yellow (after more advice I got some nutes (terra max) and treated the ladies today) apart from that they are doing great

All the best mate hopefully it all works out.

PEACE.

PHANTOM.

i'd say it's slight nitrogen deficiency. give em some food. u may find the leafs yellow further up the stalk otherwise. plants will eat from their own leaves from bottom up.

I am using mg time release soil, so is it still safe to give nutes. If I can safely give a tiny bit should it be bloom style nutes.

i use MG soil and i feed. I would give them some feed with some N in it to stop that def....i would give it veg. nuted for the 1st 2 weeks of veg...because thats the strething part and they need alot of nitrogen during this phase.
So somthing like 10-10-10 would be good numbers or somthing close to that..

good luck!
