Hello everybody reading,
i'm very glad to know you and I would like to present you the project i'm realising for the indoor grow.
I'm a 100% beginner and I read a lot, but this one is my first try, that's why I would like to ear your comments, suggestions and critics.
The mentality of the project is to do the most with things I already have, i do not want to buy too many stuffs if not strictly necessary, the project will be improved with time. For now I want the plants to grow and not to die, and to learn a lot about them.
Here is the project:
the case
i'm building a chest with wood, the sizes are:
H 90cm, L 170 cm, W 63 cm
Inside it's all painted white to reflect light at the best.
the light
that's the biggest trouble for me as new grower, I think. I would use an appropriated HID light, but i do not have one.
So i am using neon lights. They are 2 lights 150 cm long and 58W each, I do not exactly now how many lumen they do emit, but I suppose something like 2000-3000 lm each. They emit cool light, should be good for the veg stage.
The height of the lights is fixed, they are not moveable. In order to let the small plants be near the light, the pots have to be rised with something under them.
ventilation
i've done an hole on one side of the chest, and there will be placed a nice and strong 14w air extractor i already had.
In order to make a pretty and nice sea wind inside the garden i'll place some pc fans somewhere on the inside without making holes on the inside. The box will be anyway very ventilated because it is not 100% closed and it will stay open much time.
I think anyway that i will do another hole on the other side of the chest with a pc fan in order to let air flow in the box.
A question, is it better to do the holes on the top, middle or bottom of the box? i thought on the top, near the lamps, so that it'll work also as cooling sistem.
the pots:
so the plants will be at biggest 50 cm high (90 cm total height of the box minus 10 cm of lights minus 25 cm of pots makes approximatively 60cm for the plants.
So i bought pots with 25 cm of diameter, hope they are big enough. What do you think?
the soil:
for now i used normal flower soil. but i will buy some good soil for weed, i think plagron, one of them for new growers which have all the nutrients inside.the seeds:
I now let germinate 5 unknown seeds found in street weed, to look and learn how is the plants life.
Equipment I will buy soon:
a ph-meter, as corrector I'll make some experiments!
The project is already started!! The seeds are since 11 days germinated, now they have 4 small real leaves each. Now they are illuminated 18 hours aday from 2 small bulbs, 1500 lumen more or less.
the little plants have a long stem, because i placed the lights too far, i will put the stem under the soil as i transplant them, and leave outside 3-4 cm of stem, to let it make good roots.
Some of them are nice and dark green, some other are a bit pale.
I will transplant them in the next days in the definitive garden .
