Hey everyone it took me 3 tries to join this community! i dont know why. well im new and my 1st grow and 1st box based on red's box except i'm using (2) 35gal tubs.

got everything i need from homedepot and walmart.





also got (2) 120MM computer fans. 20 bucks each USED! crazy.

i still need -soil, ferts, pots. seeds have been shipped. using
(10) Ganja Dwarf / lowrider seeds and (20) free various seeds came free with purchase!

This has actually been a pretty expensive build for me. Ill post the total price after i get a few other things i need. IM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!! :jump:

Just installed the lights. what do you think about where the lights are touching the wall? should i edit the placements of the fixtures?

i read that plants light blue light during veg so i put a couple blue lights in there. ill replace them with red during flower. i'm not sure exactly if these blue light actually give the blue spectrum or not but ill give it a try :)

You might want to just toss in an extra two 6500k temp bulbs during veg, and throw in some 3000k lights during flower. The blue color that we see isn't the same spectrum as what the plant needs, same with red.

Looks like you have a great plan, & executed it perfectly.
I would like to mention though, My first micro grow, I used the 6500k cfl's and I can tell you that they keep the seedlings very compact and stout.
I then started some seeds under the 3000k cfl's and the plants stretched a-lot more.
Just a heads up man.
nice job on the grow box. I'll be watching.

just did some math a so far I've spent $494.06! That is crazy I might as well have bough a pre-made box that's probably better then what I built online somewhere..... But I did have to buy a bunch of stuff I didn't have laying around. I hope this build is worth it!

just ordered foxfarm soil and their 3 pack of ferts!
still waiting for seeds to arrive.... :clock watch:


also, donno if this thread is in the right place. if a mod would like to move this into "new growers" that would be cool.

The little trips to the casa de pot, to the hydro store, and to the local wally world all add up. But have no fear! Its an upfront cost, beyond replacing the occassional cfl, and depending on what nutrient schedule you choose to pursue, you are past the majority of the expenditures.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy your garden!

I can honestly say I am looking forward to observing your journey!

How many plants and what size pots would someone recommend for this build?

I plan to start the seedlings in .5 oz plastic medicine/shot cups until they out grow them. maybe 2 weeks? then transplant them to the final pot.

could I grow 10 plants in this box if I use half liter containers such as 2 liter bottles cut in half?

I'm rly only planning on veg with 20/4 for 3 weeks then make the switch. wut y'all think [EDIT-actually 20/4 the whole grow, i got autos]

I'm trying to figure out plant number and pot size for my next grow as well. With a three week veg, those plants will get very large unless you train or top them. If you start from seed, I'd do all ten and train them low (culling males of course). Then for my next run I'd reveg or clone from the best phenotype and just run three clones out each time from then on.

I'd look at any of the micro grows, similar wattage grows, and especially drbudgreengenes and nicoli's stuff. Also check out lst and scrog if you dont know about those styles.

Are you planning to get a cycle going where you harvest half your cab at a time, or just fill it and chop it then start over?

Regarding those bulbs, I think people mentioned it but I'll elaborate; those colored bulbs dont change the spectrum. They're still 2700k or 3600 or 6500k, they're just in blue glass.

Like Endur said, start with 6500k cfls, even 25 watts will do, then gradually add wattage and switch over to the 2700k. Soft white for flower, daylight for veg. or vice versa. whatever you get the point.

Looks good sman. You've gotten over the hump of actually getting out there to buy the stuff. Dont give up!

thanks fire on high! im not rly trying to do a cycle just yet. just seeing what i can grow/do with this set up. i just have a dwarf lowrider strain and just want to at least let this build pay for itself for the 1st harvest. after then maybe ill do a cycle with some strawberry and bluberry strains.

i rly only will have room for 1 1/2 to 2 foot plants wiht my mesurements. i could fint 8 pots in it and just grow the "tops" or i can have 3 large pots and do a nice LST or screen of green. i donno. but i hope by the 3rd grow i have a good stragety and process going.

im so antsy waiting for the seeds to arive and no one to talk to about it. it drives me crazy to build such a sweet set-up an not be able to tell anyone about it!

I know how you feel man. I just tell all my friends that dont live in the area and dont care or would pretty much forget I told them.

The way I understand it, more plants means each plant has to veg less time, effectively reducing the time for one cycle. It's also more opportunities for problems and a lot more time watering and moving them around.

i got my final light fixture in with about 450 watts total and a good mix of 6100k and 2100k lights. this picture does it not justice of how bright this thing is!

Box is pretty much complete all i need to do is finish painting it. Ill post a pic of it when its ready.

Just waiting on my seeds to get here its been 13 days :dunno:

I also hope the 122mm computer fan will be enough to cool this puppy it gets pretty toasty

Great work. Looks like your ready to pump out some prime buds. Im in the final ordering stages of getting my rubbermaid together, hopefully in two weeks ill have it up and running. Ill be definitely watching this one 450w of cfls looks fun :)

you could of bought a ten dollar 30 inch tub , found a spare fan around your house if your lucky to find one or bought one for 15 dollars, tape it to the side, put a whole directly opposite, got a pl-l lamp for 88 shipped from htg and a bag of dirt n perlite for 12 and yeilded the same as your going to with all that work n dough, live n learn, remember k.i.s.s, after reading the micro forums i realized how if your crafty n shrewd a little mini set up is so easy to acheive.


but your craftsmen ship is excellent, and im sure with a luving green thumb youll be rewarded.
