1st closet grow: how many plants under 400w?

Greetings good people of ICmag! I am just starting my 1st serious grow-op and now i need to decide the number of plants im going to grow. Here's the facts:
Strain: Pure AK from femaleseeds.nl
Grow space: 1.5 ft X 2 ft (47 X 58 cm)
Height 5 feet (150 cm)

Light: 400W Spna

Exhaust Fan kit 250 m3/h -125mm

Passive air intake with 20 cm table fan moving the air in the closet

So the question is: How many plants i should grow there?

2 plants on a slightly smaller pots, or 1 plant on a bigger 27 liter bucket? I guess it all comes down to the size of the plants but AK is completely unknown strain for me.

Yeah, i was thinking about scrogging them. I doubled the size of my grow space by sawing a hole in the fiberboard "wall" between the 2 closets. 100 X 60 centimeters ought to be enough... Well, we shall see in a few weeks.

...in my early days i ran 55 of these 1liter 'pots' in a high-density micro-SOG.

...at the time i was pulling 10 plantlets every 2 weeks and i averaged maybe 2zipz per pull, not bad really but it was VERY labor intensive and with harvesting every 2 weeks my house ALWAYS reeked of bud!

...i was still learning my chops back then so i was still searching for the lazy way to grow, and then i decided to try hempy buckets.

...note that these 'buckets' have two layers with the top being straight coco and the bottom being straight perlite in one and perlite and hydroton in the other (i now use grorocks or lava-rock in the bottoms and have done so for a couple of years to good effect), ...what makes this a 'hempy' bucket is that it has a single drainage hole where the two layers meet, ...this creates a mini reservoir at the bottom of each 'bucket'.

...here is another shot showing the single drainage hole in a different Folgers 'hempy bucket'.

...anyway, here are a couple of White Rhino's that were grown in 2liter Coke bottle coco hempys and each yielded nearly 2zipz so almost a quarter elbow from 4liters of coco. (note that the Folgers cans in this case are used as runoff trays only)

...when i grew those White Rhino's it was under a 400CMH inside that cab pictured above and i believe they did so well because i only ran 4 plants that run as i had just upgraded to a tent for my flowering so my cab was going into semi-retirement and those 4 plants were left over from what wouldn't fit into the tent.

so, to make a short story long, lol, i'd say run 4 plants in 1 gallon coco hempy buckets and feed them nothing but MaxiBloom with either Silica Blast or Protekt as a ph up. (this is what i fed those White Rhino's)

...oh, and here is a bud shot of one of the two pictured above where you can see the layers, a cross of my own made with a gifted Pure Kush clone and an AK47 daddy i raised from seed.

4-6 plants is a good number for a 400w.

I ran 4 plants under a 400w and yielded 315g
.. then I ran 5 under the same 400w and yielded 336g
... then I ran 1 single plant scrog under the same 400w and yielded 280g

Just my results.

Depends on how big you want the plants to be by harvest.

You could do a high density sog,or a low plant count like 4 to 9 plants,or 1 scrogged plant.


So what is it that you want to do?

if the height is only 5 feet, then you are better with less plants pinched and bent to keep them no higher than 3 feet,, like 3 or 4 plants,, or more like 6 scrogged really short which is more work but more productive if you put the work in..

i'd do 4 and pinch/bend the shit out of them..

I would also have to say that I would trim the lower 1/3 of all plants too before flipping to 12/12,it'll more than likely just be sucker growth anyway.

In a flat/horizontal canopy,2 feet 3 feet max!A 400w HID doesn't have very good canopy penetration beyond 2' down into the canopy.

Growing vertical though you can do about 3' max,but I wouldn't let the plants get wider than 2',preferably less front to back and more side to side.

Thanks for all the replies, i only ordered 4 seeds so i didint want to screw up by cramming them all into a inadequate room. It's all good now.
Maybe i'm just being obsessive-compulsive about small things like these, but better play safe than end up screwing them all up.

in that space i would grow 2 plants, and make a scrog net above them to train the plants so you can get a nice even canopy. check out my sig, i just grew 4 Pure AKs, in a slightly larger room than urs with a 250w, but im thinking i could yield the same with 2 plants spread out more. Coco hempy also recommended..

in that space i would grow 2 plants, and make a scrog net above them to train the plants so you can get a nice even canopy. check out my sig, i just grew 4 Pure AKs, in a slightly larger room than urs with a 250w, but im thinking i could yield the same with 2 plants spread out more. Coco hempy also recommended..

Actually i've read that one already. Those AK's look awesome to my untrained eye, fast groth.
