1989 Skunk #1 F2s @ 65 days..

I got these from a good friend and grower.. and because of the UK Cheese lineage I decided to pop em in hopes the older work would be skunkier..

I got 3 girls from 6 or 8 seeds (i'll have to check some records) and all were very typical skunk1s, or typical to the various Sbay freebies i've run all thru veg.. right down to the slightly fuzzy stems and typical leaf and branching patterns..

During veg it was easy to tell these weren't going to be much skunkier than recent versions altho i did flower the males out for a while hoping to get some skunk regardless..

I put 2 of the fems in a 2gallon pot, vegged for a week or 2, and put em in flower under a 400 horizontal..

They yeilded extremely well, but matured at varying rates, and the 2 plants in the pot were dif slightly.. the one on the right made 3 very large club like tops, and 2 other nice ones.. but most of the weight was in the 3 tops..

The other pheno on the left was the more typical spear like pheno, with 1 main top, and 10+ nice medium sized ones.. I removed about 7 of the nice medium sized tops from the plant on the left prior to the pics, as they were much riper, tons of amber trics all over both plants..

It was almost as if at 55-65 days the plant decided it wanted to be seeded and put out a big flush of pistils and then the nanners came..

I only saw a few while i was takin these pics, but then i found quite a few of them up and down the plant as i was trimming, and it looks as if they put out a good bit of pollen.. u can see in the close ups of the main colas on the 'club' pheno where all the pistils are dead surrounding the nanners, but the other colas on the plant with no nanners are still almost all white..

I wanted to leave them both a lil longer, and it's why a cut the lowers off early, so the plant could focus on the tops.. But then i saw the nanners, and evident pollination.. these are in there with tons of other strains at all sorts of flowering times, so it's jus not worth the risk of pollination.. but, the trics were ambering back at day 55, so it's gone long enough.. I'm actualy suprised at how done the lower bits on the plant are..

Pretty sure mota made these, but i'm not sure..

I would have to say you'd have to be extremely lucky to find a skunky plant in these.. even tho the density, resin production, and odor/flavor are slightly better than the freebies i grew, it still reminds me of below average commercial.. but that's just my opinion.

If i was to do a 'from-seed' commercial grow I would definately consider running these tho, the yeild is quite impressive.. I would guess somewhere between 2-2.5 oz per plant.. so 4-5 oz from a 2 gal, the colas i removed early were at least an oz or more.

I have another single girl in a 2 gal about 3 wks from finish, i'll add the pics here later, she looks like the more common spear pheno..

Both plants @ 65 days:

The 'spear' or more common pheno @ 65 days:

The 'club' pheno @ 65 days (u can see the dif between the 3 main colas, 2 are almost all white pistils, the one with nanners has tons of red):

Pass that commercial stuff this way! They look very sticky, Mota did in fact make those - he also made a Bubba clone x '89 Skunk. I do agree with you Skunk's high is not the best, I've grown a few skunks and was never overly impressed other than Belladonna. Yours sure look good though.

thanks folks

I do realize it looks pretty good, i was pretty stoked aswell on the looks of them but the smoke was mediocre.. I'm just trying to be honest about my opinion on the final product in comparison to what i've grown/smoked..

To be fair, I'm from the PNW, and our middies is headstash for most smokers, so please take that in consideration..

I am just not too impressed with all the nanners a low odor/potency of the line.. my freebies put out nanners aswell on all but 1 female.. these 2 both had/have em, and the one a few wks behind, that i just check last night, already has some.. :( so i may have to pull her before she's mature, or risk pollinating 2 huge Bubbas in DWC, 2 nice sized ECSDs, and many other Deep Chunk crosses and strains i'm growing..

The Bubba and ECSD is my personal headstash and I'd hate for it to be full of seed at harvest.. As the more ECSD/bubba i have stockpiled the more breeding and testing i can do with seeds..

With all that said, if you were starting these all at the same time in a non perpetual gro it would be fine, especialy if you are going for yeild..

thanks for all the comments folks..

hmm jingles, i'd sure like to see something stinky outa this line, god knows i've tried..

Damn bean, another possible skunk that just didnt cut it  I feel your pain my friend. I am almost completely convinced now after seeing all ofyour attempts that the true skunk will not be found in any seedbank stock :badday: Im still working and I know you are too, and I still have faith that we will find it one day.

Great grow and report, it does sound like a nice commercial variety if it wasnt for the hermies. Keep on keepin on bean :D

Take care
