I've just seen something on tv absolutely shaky, really ! Let me describe the spatio temporal settlings for your better understanding :
So we're in France (that so great country of Human Rights, eh ?) and from tomorrow it will be forbidden to smoke in public places (with loads of different fines for contravenents). This is the occasion for Media Gov. to push ever more on some pretty huge campaign against tobacco.
On one channel there's a broacast very famous called "Le magazine de la santé" ("Health Mag"). going on early afternoon 5 days per week.
Of course today's was full about tobacco and how to kick it. THey had invited some kind of expert who presented the full array of gums and other chemicals (serving us quite some pearls such as "you can go on the gums, nicotine is not toxic", eh?).
I was quite amazed at how they insisted on the guiltiness. smokers feel guilty, because he smokes, be cause he fails to stop or whatever, smokers must be guilty, smokers ARE guilty. Smokers are shit.
Only this had a pretty weird feeling.
But the horror was reached during a sequence during which people can send questions through email or sms (I couldn't resist to take part sending them "If you want to kick tobacco then smoke herb !")
One lady asked "Is it possible to kick cigarette through will?"
The "expert" replied : "NO, it is not about will, it is of no use, it is chemical problem, you need the pill"
eeeeh ? what ? Did I heard well ? Did she say that ? Oh God yes she did !
I just couldn't believe the fucking shit ! This is pure Orwellian stuff really ! I happen to have watched THX 1138 few days ago (damn good one, recommended!) and I had like flashes of this ugly medicine cupboard with the camera inside which asks "what's happening ? take this pill !"
I am not unaware of all the different kind of manipulations they're pushing on us and they way they do it, but damn it, this is the very first time ever I witness the expression of a whole unadulterated Orwellian concept showing up on tv (and I can tell you I spend a load of fucking time watching it).
The TOTAL and OFFICIAL negation of human will, it's total submission to the mediatico-chemical beast (yeah men, the screen is THE pill !).
