I heard that America's enemies have sent out instructions to start fires in America during fire season. Hope this wasn't one of those fires.

Pure speculation, FUD of the usual authoritarian variety.
Most growers have good reason for a little paranoia, but it's important not to let it creep into other aspects of our world view.
The loss of life is very unfortunate. I hope that the wounds of grief & loss heal quickly.

Fire shelters are not worth the extra weight....hated having to carry one. I was a FS Hotshot for many years...nothing would have saved those folks....and that is sad. They've tried to improve the shelters over the years...and all that did was..make them bulkier and heavier. I'd have never carried one..but for regulations.
The winds alone...would have blown those things off them...or lifted them enough..to let in the preheated air. Better off wrapping up and running...at least you go out on your feet...as running won't save you either

Pure speculation yes, however at the same time Islamic extremest wrote about how to make pressure cooker bombs, they also wrote about how to start forest fires and where. One of the two of these have happened, and proved to be true. Hope it continues to be speculation, but doesn't mean it can't be accurate.
Paranoia? Is your head buried in the sand? Have you looked at the state of the world today? Starting fires in America is a stated goal, why would it make me paranoid to state that it is possible this fire was started intentionally? Would that be the first fire that was started intentionally? Give me a break people and open your eyes to what is going on in the world........
The world is an ugly place sometimes. 19 peeps died on a lightening strike. That's what happened here. This happens every season...but not to such a scale...as having a Type 1 crew incinerated. Fire behavior caught up with them...caught them off guard. I'm sure...fingers are already being pointed..and heads on the blocks...then...more regulations towards the illusion of safety.
I don't give a shit about about any Islamic extremist stated goals. I sure don't lose any sleep over fear mongering. Arson fires are very normal...some peeps have the bug. Many of us dudes...who have fought the fires...have the same exact bug. That's part of the draw.
If some enemy of the state...is out there..organizing fire starts...well...what should we do? Fight the fires?...just like we fight most all the fires? Yup. The fire world...is like all modern worlds...it's an industry. Or maybe we should enact the Patriot Act...and every arsonist is now deemed a terrorist.
Stop conjecture...stop speculation...stop being a victim/perpetrator of fear mongering. Get your feet on the ground..and out of medium air

If they were volunteers than yes, they are heros.
If they got a paycheck...it was just another person doing the job they get paid to do. Nothing special.

They were specialists (go ahead and look it right on up ), and they were there to answer the call to a losing battle that not many more would take.
They were going against a force of nature they knew was ferocious and mighty, to say the LEAST.
They knew that they were going to stop something that they might not be able to, because it might save some people if they tried.

I feel we throw around the word HERO too loosly these days.
Just like a pastor at a church. If he gets a paycheck...then hes not preaching the whole truth because most people will be offended. So he is swayed by the power of what others think so he doesnt loose that paycheck or the people that tithe 10% every weekend.
Thats not a hero. He would be a hero if he got a job like everyone else and then preached the whole truth every weekend. Then it would be a selfless service and sacrafice of love no matter what the people think or say. Hero.
I dont think these firefighters were heros. Just people that died doing a dangerous job.
Its a tragedy none-the-less. I appreciate these brave men who raced into the face of danger to do their jobs like men should.
They picked a dangerous profession for the respect, glory, and the paycheck. Who says anything bad about a firefighter right?
Well.....they got what they wanted. They just paid the ultimate price with their lives, and left behind grieving family members who depended on them. Its a shame. It really is. They knew what the dangers are. They loved the adrenaline rush. They loved to be in the middle of the action.
Who isnt interested in seeing a fire when there is one. I am. Its tragic and kinda cool at the same time to see a fire.
Edward Snowden. Now thats a hero. He gave up everything he owned and worked for, to tell the world the truth.
He had everything to loose, including a $200,000 a year paycheck. He even gave up his whole family and his country for the truth and now may even spend the rest of his life behind bars like a caged animal getting mentally and physically abused by those in authority at the prison.
Look. These brave firemen lost their lives in horrible fashion. I get that. Im not arguing at all. They are brave men, and with honor and blood, they gave their lives to save the homes of others. They didnt plan on dying that day. Through a shifting of crazy winds they were overcome by heat and smoke. I truly cant imagine what these men went through as they thought about their lives and loved ones and the face of death just around the corner. Knowing that you will burn to death must be to terrifying to even come close to describing that feeling inside with words.
Im not saying you dont have the right to think the 19 are heros. Thats great. Alot of people...90% of Americans would agree with you.
I just personally reserve the "Hero" status for someone who doesnt get rewarded or honored publically for there efforts.
The hidden heros of everyday life that will get their reward in the after life after being unnoticed and unrewarded here in this life.
I think it takes more courage to make a decision to die for another person, and walk that path, than it does to be caught in a situation of imminent death, and there is nothing you can do about it.
