18 hour schedule, pollinating bud.

Greetings all.
First post here so be easy on me. I have been a long time lurker of OG, then when it shut down, thank goodness I found ICMAG, thus a new home to lurk in, and now participate.
Anyway, I have a question I would like to run by you all, as the wisdom here is infinite :woohoo: I am running the 18 hour day schedule. For those of you not familiar with the 18 hour day, basically it cuts your harvest time by about 2 calendar weeks. I am at about calendar day 26, 18 hour day schedule day 34 in flowering. I am looking at harvest Jan.28-30, however I have pollinated a few select branches of my girl. By pollinating, my harvest would be Feb.6-8 which allows 30 calendar days for the seeds to develop and mature.
My question is, using the 18 hour day schedule do you think the seeds will mature at the faster rate as well, or will they still need at least 30 calendar days versus 24 days using the 18 hour day schedule. Hope this makes sevse. Thanks for any replies.

how many on and off per 18 hours is that????

I assume its 8-12...

Ive always wondered....

If they only have 8 hours of light do they need 12 hours of dark???

or whats magic about 12 hours of dark????

I guess for simplistic sake I will post my entire light cycle:

1 ON Sun 12:00pm
1 OFF Sun 6:40pm

2 ON Mon 6:40am
2 OFF Mon 1:20pm

3 ON Tue 1:20am
3 OFF Tue 8:00am

4 ON Tue 8:00pm
4 OFF Wed 2:40am

5 ON Wed 2:40pm
5 OFF Wed 9:20pm

6 ON Thu 9:20am
6 OFF Thu 4:00pm

7 ON Fri 4:00am
7 OFF Fri 10:40am

8 ON Fri 10:40pm
8 OFF Sat 5:20am

9 ON Sat 5:20pm
9 OFF Sun 12:00am

To answer your ? Budleydoright, I would say 1 on cycle per 18 hours. It goes 6+ hours on, 12 off. I have basically shortened my days to 18 instead of 24. Thanks.

It seems to me that 6on and 6 off might work???

most plants even with normal light cycles dont even need 12 hours of dark to flower....

It seems to me that using 18 hours I would do sometihgn like 9 and 9 or something....

6 hours of light seems unhealthy...

Here is the complete article that I used. This should give everyone an idea of what I am doing. Again, I am wondering if the seeds will mature as fast as the bud/plant itself.

Budleydoright, supposedly the magic is 12 hours darkness for cannabis. I guess you could bump the on light cycle up, but I think the 6 hours 40 minutes has been mathmatically equated to reset after 7 days allowing for a sensible light regimine. I don't really want to be the one to figure it out any further. I just want to get some bud a little quicker, but want to make sure I get seeds too. Also, I realize someone is going to tell me to just harvest all but the 3 or 4 branches pollinated. I will probably do just that, but out of curiosity still wondering if the seed will follow suit time frame wise. I guess time will tell. Just thought it was an interesting question to post.

seeds take only 30 calender days to mature...so they are ready before the plant is in a lot of cases..so according to my math and your numbers 38 of your compromised days instead of 30 regular days for your mature seeds

Thanks Unicorn for the reply, however I am a bit confused by your math. My thinking is if the plant in normal grow conditions takes 30 calendar days to be viable then, according to my math using the 18 hour day cycle I gain about 6.72 hours per day grow cycle wise. At the end of 1 week I gain about 47.04 hours of grow cycles. Now, It would be fair to say at the end of 3 weeks (21 calendar days), using the 18 hour light schedule I would be right at 27 days grow cycle wise, so I broke it down to get 3 more grow cycles and that would be about equal to 2.25 calendar days. So after all that, basically using the 18 hour light schedule 23 calendar days would be about equal to 30 grow days/cycles. So I guess the question is can/will I get viable seed from my girl in 23 days? Crazy what you think of when your baked.
Thanks.

i just dont think you can change how fast the seed matures...obviously the plant we can speed up..i just think the seeds would be premature...i could be wrong...i have no experience in your light regimen...i would harvest some at 28 and some at 38 of your freaky deaky schedule which in reality is not 28 days..but again this is just my opinion...im sure there is a breeder here some where who can answer the question with experience on the subject at hand

Fair enough. We should know in a few weeks, I will post the results. Thanks again. I like the freaky deaky phrase by the way.

Well for those interested, I will finally post my results. Unicorn you were probably most accurate overall. The seeds were small, mostly white and under-developed. I started to trash them all, but when I squeezed a couple of them I noticed small green matter in the hull's. I decided what the heck, soaked them all in a cup of water. They all but 4 out 70+ sank within 36 hours. I thought wow!, planted them. About 15 sprouted above the dirt. Lost 5 or 6 to waterbugs (curly bug, whatever). Of the 8 or 9 that were left, all but 3 had cotelydons(small round leaf) but no first leaves. They withered and died within a week. The 3 that were left, 2 withered and died. I have 1 left, appears it will die soon. End result, I would say to get viable seed, 30 calendar days is needed minimum. Hope you enjoyed it. :joint:
