First post!! OK so i'm starting a 150w hps-dwc-lst grow in a dresser, I already got it hollowed out with my pvc intakes in. Its 20"w x 13"d x 30"h(actual grow space, i'll post pics soon), this thing is in my bedroom so i'm gonna need to have a really quiet fan that I can run through a scrubber. I was thinking about getting one of those Panasonic whisper fans because I know those are quiet, but it might be a lil bit too big and heavy for my setup. What about those Soler & Palau fans? The TD-100 4", does anybody know how loud these things get? Sorry if its been asked before I couldn't find it.
I just got a Soler & Palau TD-125 for a cabinet about the size of yours (2' x 1.5' x 3'). On High power (~200CFM) it's pretty loud, but it's just wooshing air which can be muffled. On low, which is about 150CFM and perfect for what I need, it's not loud at all, and inside the cabinet (not even insulated/door slightly open) it VERY quiet. And this is without any insulated ducting or carbon filter attached, which I think once inside a cabinet and hooked up to sound-muffling insulated ducting and carbon scrubber it'll be practically silent.
It all comes down to the sound of wooshing air, really. There are ways to combat this, though. External insulated boxes, insulated ducting, etc
With a 150 watt HPS, you will definately need a good, strong exhaust fan...with the scrubber, it will lessen noise but the fan will work harder...
I have the same setup(almost!) if you want to see how I did mine up.. BC Chronic's 150 watt HPS/T5 scrog cab is my thread in the micro grow section...
the thread below will help too.. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=31172
best wishes on your grow
Honestly, I was in the same position and decided to get the 125 and run it on the low setting (could even get a good fan controller and go lower), plus when I make a bigger box in the future I could probably still use this on high.
I say go for the TD-125. I bet the 125 on low is quieter than the 100 on high.
I have a TD-125 on high blowing into a can 9000 and its almost silent. I run an air purifier on top of my cab on low and it completely drowns out the noise of my td 125 on high and td-100x on low(the 100x is hooked up to my cool tube cause I am running 400w) They make a 5" flange for the can 9000 too but you'll have to order it since most stores dont stock that size flange. Just be aware the 5" is more like 4.5" and doesnt fit standard ducting. I had to cut my ducting down the side a little to pull it tighter around the fan's flange then wrap with plenty of foil tape.
what size pvc intake are u using 2.5"? either way you will want about 30 square inches of intake for a TD-125 to be able to use a commercial carbon scubber without burning out your fan thats about 6 2.5" holes. area of a circle is the radius(diameter divided by 2) squared times pi(3.14)
ex)for 2.5" pvc
2.5/2 = 1.25
1.25*1.25 = 1.5625
1.5625*3.14 = 4.90625" is the intake area.
well its really a little less than that because its not a hole but a tunnel and there are bends but its close enough.
you could probably get away with less if you used a traditional fan but s&p fans dont like to be stressed too hard but they are worth it in my opinion if stealth is a concern. People walk right past my cab and dont think twice.
Have you thought about darkroom vents. They will leave you with all your floor space and when you add up the cost of all the pvc fittings they dont cost much more.
that set of 2 is what I use with my s&p td-125. only 1 strained my motor bad but 2 is perfect and like I said I am blowing into a can 9000 filter too and it is still strong enough to suck the doors shut. The td-125 kept my 250w grow cab 7f over room temp with just bare bulb. But I upgraded to a 400w and a new cab so I got a td-100x to cool just the light separately.
If I was building your room I would just go bare bulb with a pc fan blowing up at the light and get a cheap batwing reflector and cut to fit or improvise my own with foil and foam board. Spend your money on the fan, filter, and darkroom vents.
You could probably cool your room with just the td-100x but it doesnt have enough omph to work with any store bought scrubber I know of the 125 on high is about minimum with the s&p line. they are about equal to a 4" can fan in power.
So much info. I don't think my setup is big enough for two of those 8x8's I can only use one side of the dresser for intake and its only 13" deep. I would have to stack it and I don't know about that.
well there is more than 1 way to skin a cat try posting in the micro grow section those people know better how to scale things down. I have never gone smaller than 2' x 2' myself.
I know that this is an old thread but anyone reading this should know that some of the earlier info isnt correct. The td100x works great with both a can 2600 and a phresh 4x8. Its the best stealth fan on the market imho.
