15 plants... 2 female, 13 male?!?

Yes... I got only 2 females out of 15 plants!

Here is the story...

About 5 years ago I bought some regular Super Lemon Haze seeds. From those I got roughly 50/50 male to females. All good. From those plants I found a couple of seeds per ounce, then grew those 2nd generation seeds next season and got 75% female and 25% male... great!

I kept the remainder of that same seed stock for about 3 years, then decided to plant another patch of SLH this past season from these same seeds. Well... this time the ratio changed to 2 females from 15 plants!

WTF is going on here? I can only assume something environmental has affected them? (They were grown outdoors) The plants themselves grew true to type, classic SLH and very healthy. Does anyone know what happened to cause this? Cheers.

Luck of the draw. Years ago I planted 10 seeds out of 20...can't remember the variety, I think it was Early Haze, one of Shanti's. I got 10 females. I still have the other 10, wonder what I'll get, lol.

What's the ratio if you count both seasons' seeds?

Good question...

I got 2 males and 2 females from the original seeds I bought.
From those plant's seeds I got roughly 6 males and 14 females.
From the same batch of seeds as above I got roughly 13 males and 2 females...

Never come across anything like it!

Oh well, grow them and we will find out ;)

sounds like the last 2 runs gave you 19 males and 16 females
close to 50-50 like the originals.

I read at one time that something effects male to female ratios. Can't recall whether it was nutrient ratios or the light. Sometimes it's the genetics, you just happened to pick 15 of the wrong seeds (13 actually).

There is a lot of old and unproven info, so I can't really explain your situation. I would be bottom dollar that the genetic sex is determined when fertilized. In humans the sex is determined by the male (pollinator).

When you look at it that way, yes...

Could I actually have been that unlucky and just picked mostly female seeds the second time, leaving almost only males the third time?? Sheesh... :(

I agree.

Bad environment = no sex. :sasmokin:

At least these plants were a last minute afterthought, so not a huge disaster.

But damn... what a great growing site we found! Full, unrestricted sunlight and the best natural soil I've ever seen, also next to a large creek. The plants themselves went absolutely crazy there, even thought they were sown and planted nearly 3 months late into the season. We got a bit over two pounds of buds from those two 4 month old plants, which is impressive for our climate and location. I can't imagine the yield if we got even 50% females...

I am sure if you look at the bigger picture, you may find you have gotten a 50% female/ale rate overall. some times are better than others. enjoy them all. peace

Here's the funny part about growing regular seeds. You plan for a % being male and then that ratio doesn't play to your plans. With the scenario I posted earlier, I had others in the works and when 10 for 10 occurred had to adjust. Culled a couple (mistake??) but anyway had to scramble to accommodate. Others in the works produced more females then planned too.

Some might say "why not just grow fem seed?" My answer..."I love regulars."

just the way it is...I got 10 males once/10 seeds ..I usually get higher female to male ratios last run was 16 females out of 25 seeds.....yeehaw...seed sex is predetermined and in the long run its about 50/50 ratio...smaller batches just make it seem not so sometimes

10 males out of 10 seeds... damn. Yes, it seems we were both unlucky.
