13 ft x 13 ft space,what would you do?

S

Sad But True

Currently building a 13ft x 13ft x 8ft high space.
Trying to decide what to do with it... but having so many mind changes.

First i was thinking to split it into 3 and do perpetual... but now im thinking that the work load will be too much.
Want to be able to leave it up to a week sometimes unattended "seldom would this happen" but often 3 days.

Im wanting more low maintenance, what would you do if you had the chance of setting this space up today?

Would you stick with soil with water timers or go hydro?

Light wattage? layout?

Not really keen on big numbers so most likely SCROG.
Have in and out vents sorted and large 315mm fan & carbon filter.

Can possibly build a separate veg box for cloning & raising them up.

Need to suss asap as drywall going up this weekend.

Hey SBT, I would love to recommend to hit the tube and search HygroHybrid, pay the buck for a 30 day sub and PAY ATTENTION. This man offers basic knowledge all the way to advanced tek and doesnt miss a beat. Only issue is he says the same shit over and over sometimes but the man is a genius. its based off a RDWC system that changes water every 2 weeks. everything is on timers except pruning and training.

separate veg area as DH suggests... saves you months in the long run and adds many more cycles to your year ;)

and if I could give you a shove in the right direction it would be-
A) Dont skip any step, no matter how small it seems.
B) Always triple-quadruple check any fact from anyone that doesnt push either 1 GPW or 2 lb per light. No offence to everyone who doesnt, but just because they dont know better about what they are not doing right doesnt make it right.

Ive read tons of posts, articles, and watched hundreds of videos. The only people that seem to be CONSISTANTLY on the same 'team' when it comes to giving the same answer would be the homies growing either 1 gram per watt or the ones growing 2 lb per 1000w.

Im not saying everyone's info is moot, but when your new and looking for facts vs looking to try new shit you dont want to listen to the guy that tells you to SM-90 + Alcohol @ week 6 flowering is not going to hurt anyone... Make sure the answers you get are factual and not experimental, we have a lot of people here that give solid tips from scientific aspects. Just find the old threads.

Goog tip, if you have a question go to goog and use the highlight words you need to find along with ICMAG at the end and you willl find the threads talking about the subject.

I would run two four by eight tables, 2k each, run on opposite hours, flood and drain with rockwool and botanicare nutrients. Change res out every week and get more cooling capabilities. 315 cfm is not enough for the space. The rest of the area use for veg room. Harvest 3-4 units a month or so. Easy peasy.

I would start very simple. 2 rows of 3-600 watt vented hoods. Start with Pro-mix or Coco in Smartpots. Like 5 gallon to 7 gallon pots. Can't miss.

SOG organics in large pots. Vertically hung lights in circles. I hit 1g/w minimum with this method more for some strains in a 10x22ft space. You said you didn't want high numbers and that's the only way this really works but just thought I would offer a different opinion than has been mentioned.

You need a veg area. Once that is taken care of or that area is separate and reserved, hang up 4x1kw lights for the flower room or 6 x 600watters and choose yourpreferred method of growing and do it.

My flower rooms are all at different locations, but each one has a 12x7 trellis with 2000 watts overhead, and 2x400 watt hps on each side for 3600 total watts. I mount the top lights directly to the ceiling, and have the side ones on stands that roll out of the way when i am working on the garden. Between 12-24 plants total depending on strain,3gal coco/perlite DTW multi feed.topp/fim. Put them in the flower room at about 1 -1 1/2 feet tall, train them, end up w 4-5' trees and yields above 1 gpw.

The secret is side lighting and multiple feeds in flower.... Which isnt really a secret at all.

Ok cheers for all the advice etc guys, much appreciated!

Have gone with a 3 way split.

Entrance in the center leads into a 900mm deep full length across split,
To the right is a veg room 1mtr x 900mm that will have 1x 400w MH
To the right is a soundproofed fan room 600mm deep 900w to house my 315mm centrifugal fan.
On the outside of the fan room is my power boards etc.

Strait forward from entrance is 2 doors and the rest of the space is split into 2 even rooms that will each have 2x 1000w HPS in cool tubes.
If temps allow once rooms are locked in i have 2 more 400w MH units that i can add to the rooms if needed.

Smashed it out the last couple of weeks... complete freestanding room isolated from framing of building densely insulated and 2 sheets of drywall for soundproofing... sound sealed between each layer and is completely airtight.
Any building inspector would be proud if they ever got to see it :p

I already have a bunch of seedlings started from a couple of strains i bread last year and also a couple of other strains i have been sitting on for a couple of years waiting for this room to happen... they are in dirt so will run them i 1 room and then start the perpetual in hydro from there 1 room at a time so i can slowly set it all up.

fun times... hard work but i love this stuff : )

Questions i have now...

I am going to run custom tables with either flood and drain or drippers in hydration (spell)?
each room will have will have its own res (which i already have) but i want to have 1x top up res for all 3 rooms.
As the PPM's will be different for all 3 rooms as they will be in different stages, what is ideal PPM to be running in the top up res?
It will be supplying veg and budding... already have a 200ltr barrel for this and it will be located outside the rooms on a shelf for ease of filling.

Come to think of it, i also have another 60ltr barrel that i could use for top up res for veg room and when other rooms are in veg... would it be better to do that rather than supplying budding and veg rooms top up with same diluted solution?
