120cm X 60cm 2x 250watt hps

im going to be buying 2 enclosed reflectors, and imgoing to use 250watt hps in each one, i realise its alot of light for doing a sog in a small area and will reduce my GPW,

what im wondering is, is 250 overkill? i could use 2 150watters but i figured with the glass there the light would be alot weaker.

As far as I am concerned, an excellent choice. I think you will be pleased. But, I am not sure why you feel that more light (proper heat management taken into consideration, of course) would reduce your yields. I'm guesstimating that you're getting about 65W's (+/-) per sq.ft. The only thing I would suggest is to take a look at the CMH thread. The bulbs are a bit problematic to get, if you don't live in No. America, but not impossible.

if i cram say, 2000watts in there, vented it all, it that same area, yeild would become probably somthing like 0.2 gram per watt, there is a peak ammount of light to yeild ratio, and going over it will lower your grams per watt yeild.

Thank you, for that! I did know that 150W's per sq. ft. (about 30 sq cm?) was getting into the area of diminishing returns, but, that is good to know. Still, I think it is at about 100W's per that is about the ideal and two 250's falls well below the max of 150W's/ft2. While two 400's will create a lot of heat I am in the planning stages of reconfiguring my setup and was hoping to work 940W's of CMH (2X250), HPS (1X400), and UVB (2X20) into the mix. But now I may have to rethink that to 3X250's and dropping the 400. Thanks again, for the enlightening info.

yea i did some calcs and i end up wih 64w per sq ft, 2 150s would be like 51w which is basicly the minimum, so im going to go with 250s.

oh btw im talking relative yeilds, yeilds will be higher with more light but the extra watts used will give diminishing yeild increase %'s along with how much extra watts you use.

example is like

300watts produces 0.6 GPW with a yeild of 175 grams dry or so.
600watts produces 0.3 GPW with a yeild of 200 grams dry or so

and so on, these arnt numbers to do with any yeilding ive done these are examples.
